Thanks for the tip on removing the bearings. I half took my alternator apart and the bearings looked like I would need a blind puller to remove at least the first one. I have a puller set, but they are at my shop so I just left the pile of parts in a box and paused. That was months ago. Now I’ll give it a try with a punch when I get a chance.

My tractor projects have taken a back seat lately. I’m in the process of installing a min-split in my kitchen and have a long list of stuff to fix on the old truck to get it ready for sale. I plan to do some gardening tomorrow so the 455 will come out to play.

Now, for fairness sake, I have to acknowledge the digital fuel gauge is a big step backwards in terms of accuracy and reliability. I have watched it bounce from low fuel warning light to quarter tank in the course of 50 yards of mowing. Still, that x728 will serve you well for long time.
I'm with you on the digital gauge thoughts too !

When a tree branch knocks your cap off & you don't feel like jumping off the X595 just yet, use a grapple.

I wish I could have gotten a pic of this little Walnut I took down at my daughters. It was leaning over the road in the back ground. It doesn't look that big. I dropped it in the street and pulled it around the block with the X738. I had to stay in the center of the road, the tips of the branches were brushing the mail boxes on both sides. I pulled it into my daughters front yard first to take a pic and she ran out yelling, "Where did you take that tree down from"? She thought I took down a good tree in her front yard. The Brush Bandit made short work of it.

My shop called and said my trailer failed MD inspection. All MD vehicles have a once in a life time safety inspection needed to get tags. That’s once per owner. I expected the tires would be the only thing that could fail, maybe axle bearings. All of the lights and signals worked, although a little dim, maybe. He said even though the lights worked, the wiring harness had a single ground wire screwed to the frame. Yeah? All my trailers, brush chippers, any towables have a single ground wire to the frame. He said that’s no longer adequate by MD standards. Said it would cost $150 to fix. I want to use it to go to WV Tuesday, and am too busy to mess with it, so I told him, do it. I didn’t even ask what the fix was? I did notice when I brought it home the computer was going nuts on the truck. Turned left signal on and the truck said, Left Signal Fault. Hit the brakes and the truck said, Trailer Connection Fault. Even though all lights were working. He said the computer might be sensitive enough to pick up the malady, or is actually programmed to pick it up? The trailer for the stump grinder I rented did the same thing, and the pig tail looked perfect? I was admiring that trailer and the guy said they paid $7000 for it ten years ago and its worked flawles. Bet it has a single ground wire to the frame?

My grounds all go the the light or lights and brakes. Then right to the plug ground.
I know the TT also has a ground to the frame. But it's also the only one presently with electric brakes. But it's also the only one with brakes.
I am thinking without two grounds the truck may not know it's grounded at the plug or there could be no ground to the battery to trailer frame. I would find the battery to frame hard to imagine not being there.
Am guessing receiver grounding isn't acceptable any more.

Thanks, I’ll have him show me what they did, and explain why, when I pick it up tomorrow. My friend just rewired the 5’X8’ trailer I gave him years ago. He just got a $35 wiring kit from Walmart. All it has is the 4 wire plug with a ground to the plug. The ground wire was only about a foot long, just long enough to reach the screw on the trailer tounge.

Pressed the bearings back into the alternator for the 322 today and now have a good "spare" if I should have issues with any of them again. Nice to have a press available to make short work of that job.

Got the 4066R out and hooked up the Bush Hog finish mower to mow the NW corner of the yard.

This part of the yard hasn’t really been mowed in many years. It’s very rough and has hidden tree stumps. Later this summer we will give a good college try to level it out to where I can at least keep it knocked back with the regular mower.

If you rent a stump grinder, get a Toro STX38 or another self propelled, hydraulic unit. Lots of rental places have Vermeer 252's as rentals. DO NOT GET a 252. You lock one wheel and it's the pivot point. YOU have to move the cutter wheel back and forth to grind. Often you will see two guys running one. One pulls the handle bar right, then the other pulls it back left. It is murder on the operator. When Dad was in business we had 2 Vermeer's, a Model 15 that had an 8' swing with a 65 HP over head valve Wisconsin and a 630A with a 35 HP Wisconsin. Both were outstanding units for the time, and a used 630A is still a good tow behind unit. Just stay away from the 252 man powered ones.

When I rewired my trailer last year, I ran ground wires rather than using the frame, as I had to regularly fix ground connectors for lights.

IDK why your computer would freak out, other than if perhaps he botched the job and the ground is no longer passing through the connector and instead is using the hitch.

Mowed the grass with the X728 and helped the neighbor get rid of some brush and a pallet by using NY322 and the LBL with forks to move them to my burn pile which was already going.

The computer was reacting before I took the trailer in, he hadn't touched it yet. The truck is fine with my 10,000 pound dump trailer. The truck tells you when a bulb is bad. Really surprised me the first time I had a trailer bulb blow and the truck said, "right trailer light out". I'll update what it boils down to, tomorrow.
