So... I truly wasn't planning on buying anything.. I swear..

Yesterday I joined my friend Duff on a ride, he bribed me with lunch if we used my enclosed trailer to bring down a few JD goodies to a friend in PA, and pick up a parts 445 for him to scavenge a rear for his 455. So we loaded a beat 47" blower, a decent 60" deck and a model 45 up and before we hit the road, my wife kiddingly says "bring the check book and bring home another tractor" with a laugh that left now doubt that it was a JOKE!.... Knew it would be a late night as we couldn't get there until 5:30, but I'm a night owl and we avoided any rush hour traffic. Took our time and got there about 6:00, and met his buddy in his shop. Had a few tractors in various state, including an X585. Shot the breeze for a few and unloaded the goods and pushed his into the trailer and strapped it down.

Duff was trying to score a few extras parts out of him, and I had noticed a pair of starter weights in the corner so I thought I'd play too and asked about them..$250.I passed, but kept eyeing the x585.. you could tell it was kept outdoors a lot, ( why?!?), but only 304 hours on a 2005, no deck, but a 3PH. Finally because I'm not smart and shouldn't be allowed outdoors without an adult present, I asked how much he wanted for it? That started a 45 minute negotiations process. I offered what I thought was fair, he wanted an additional 800 without the 3PH..no, I'll pass.. he threw in brand new front tires and a lower price, the ones on it were worn down, I threw a bone but wanted the 3PH.. he lowered some more, but as I wasn't really dying for it, I said I'd probably regret it and said I was going to pass on it.

As I've mentioned before, I'd had my heart set on a 1 or 2 series of my own someday.. And tho that would be SOO nice, its not cheap, so I'd been toying on whether a X5 or X7 would really fit most of my needs and just rent when I have a bigger chore. I don't know what came over me, but I suddenly blurted.. Throw in those 72# starters? another 100 he replied.. all right thats a deal.. My eyes cleared, and I wasn't sure what had just happened, but..ok!

Suddenly realized I need a 45 loader..well, heck, we just wheeled one in. So for $100 more than he just paid for it, he mounted it up, and in the trailer it went!! bit of a squeeze, but Duff rearranged things and strapped it down as I pulled up paypal on my phone.. ( Told you I shouldn't be unsupervised)

Finally hit the road about 9pm, gas and a heart attack in a sack for dinner to go.. Get home around 2 this morning, dropped the trailer, then hit the sack. I was pleasantly surprised on how well my wife took it this morning.. must have caught her still half asleep.. but I'll have to move the 425 with loader, to appease her, which is fine as I'm out-of-space! Figure I'll give the 585 a go, and if it really doesn't pass the mustard, I'll sell it and then go bite the bullet for a scut.

It's going to need a bath, cleaning up, a complete go thru with fluids and make it a little prettier. Hydraulics seams a bit noisy, but I'll see how it is after a flush. I don't think $7300 wasn't too outrageous..

You're under arrest! That is a nice rig. Pretty similar to my X748 except for the engine. I have one coming, but without the loader.

watch out.. u r lookin like MrBeef.. can't resist buyin another.. they get bigger each time.. that includes the scut u talked about..

Nice score! You do realize it would have been much cheaper to just buy the starter weights for $250 and call it a day but where is the fun in that!!!

Thanks! I've started digging into it, think I'm going to like it!

HAHA!! It's looking good, but you can tell it was parked outside, hasn't everyone heard what a tarp is? Drives me crazy, In fact I actually had to evict my truck so I could put the 4x5's in my bay at the house so I could get it on the lift. Somehow having the truck parked outside doesn't affect me as much as seeing the tractors sitting out in the weather. I sent you a PM about your new tractor, if you were interest, I'm there!

I think MrBeef has put us all to shame.. I bow deep, in awe of his collection! Problem for me is I'm out of room, I need another shed!

Oh... that thought crossed my mind.. If I had bought those quick, I might have satisfactorily scratched that itch, for the time being!!

The price determines the score. We cannot tell if you struck it rich or paid the going rate for the set. How about it?
Well.. I paid $7300 with 3ph, starter weights new front tires and loader. I can’t say I stole it, I might not have gotten a great deal, but with only 300 hours on it, and hopefully only cosmetic touch ups beside maintenance I’m happy.

I'd b lookin at the front tires & Y they have to b replaced with only 300 hours on it.. tires should last a lot longer.. maybe the 'toe in' is way off..

Thats my guess. Either that or they let Junior do figure eights on the pavement... haha!

I admit I jumped in with both feet on this one without doing a lot of homework, hopefully its doesn't come back to bite me.. :tango_face_grin:

585 is the cat's meow.... Great purchase. Congrats

A couple of 585’s at local dealer network are at $7000 (800+ hrs, 3PH) - $7200 (500+ hrs). With your 45 loader, weights, and tires... for $7300, you made out well and I don’t think you will regret it unless you put into your garage on the wife’s side. :sidelaugh:sidelaugh

Thanks for the cost info. It helps all of us who buy and sell these things. The online tractor dealers are from Mars. Their prices are not ever reached in my area so I don't have a lot of real world data to go by. Your deal is a great one!

I think the wife might lay claims on that since she prompted you to take the "checkbook", so get it shined up, maintenance done, check the tow (front tires). Then go shopping for some ribbon and a very large bow. The we will see if the phrase "Happy Wife, Happy Life" is true.:sidelaugh:sidelaugh:hide::tango_face_devil:

:tango_face_surprise I hate when that happens! :tango_face_devil:

"but it followed me home".... I come from 4 generations that have used those EXACT words many, many, many times. Sometimes it was a stray dog or cat or one time a crate of chickens. Sometimes it was a tool or gun. Often it was a salvaged piece of something found at the curb on garbage day, or as my family calls it, Treasure Hunting day. You did well.

LOL............ yep me too, my dad (70+) accidentally goes "curb hunting" all the time. :tango_face_grin:
