Gravely paint match question: I have a red 1984 Gravely model 5665 walk behind tractor. What is the best paint color match to use for touch up, or for implements? I'd like paint from a can, not spray paint if possible. thanks for any help,

I went to an automotive paint store. With the sample i brought they were able to match the color and mix the color in a paint base I found to superior to box store paints. It has been 3 to 4 years now and the paint has stood up to sun, oils and gasoline abuse. You can spray or brush the paint with good results. All you need is a solid base. Pricey but worth it.

The paint is GlobalStar L7.1.K1, see link below....

They have changed reds so much I just go to Tractor Supply and get some International Harvester Red rattle cans and it looks great on both of my old L models, there’s many a pic on here as I was doin a back yard thumb buster resto job. Sometimes IDK if it’s a slight color change or weathered paint fades or what but I’ve found out reguardless of what paint or how you wanna apply it a lot of it has to do with preperation, you can use the nicest paint and gun someone wants but if you paint over a crappy surface it’s gonna look like a crappy job aye?

I didn’t bother to try to compare my color because it’s a ‘66 model L and it was that reddish/orange and I figured I’d have to blend it with a paint gun set up wich I don’t have and ain’t gonna get, I mean it’s basicially a overgrown mower and tractor ya know lol. If it was a show queen it would be different but still I like my stuff to look good no matter what it is ya know? There’s pics all over my post of it that are about 2 years old, I finally got it running good and looking decent too. It’s covered up in my car port/ shop for the winter. I have an electric start L 8 to my son uses the heck out of with a sulky to.

For the earlier red orange paint an almost perfect match is Dupli-Color DE1607 Chevy orange red engine paint. I also use a clear over top
