Good Day To All Of The John Deere Fans On This Sight.
My name is Mike, I live on the southeast side of Indpls, IN. Posted back in Oct, that my dearly beloved 140 was stolen by some low life. First of all Thank You to the folks who replied to that. I have finally been able to move past the loss, ALMOST. Not sure yet what to replace it with yet. The original quote from the dealer was for a Mdl 530. After making them aware that my 140 had front and rear hydraulics, and the snow blade had hydraulic angle and vertical adjustments, they have moved me up to the Mdl 700. I was only using my 140 to push snow as I have a small Dixon for the grass. After our kids get through college, and if we have any money left we have always wanted to get out and have a little property. I always thought I would want a tiller on the back of the 140 for gardening. I would appreciate any and all advice or thoughts on going with the basic Mdl 700, with the 54in hydraulic blade, versus stepping down to the Mdl 540. If I go down to the 540 I am getting a mower deck which I do not get with the 700. What I like on paper anyway is the 540 has a tighter turning radius, more horsepower, but I am being forced into the blade with the manual angling kit. The folks that have this, how do like it? Would like to know more about both of these Models before I go back to my dealer. :greendr:http://www.mytractorforum.com/images/smilies/greendr.gif

If you still have the 140 attachements, why not find another one? Or perhaps a 300, 316, or 317? With a little work, you could completely rebuild as well as add power steering to any of these for much less than the cost of a new 500 or 700 series tractor?

:ditto:

Check out Roger in Hobart, Indiana.
He usually has an extensive inventory; you might be able to find a replacement 140.

Stolen JD140 Thread.

Forgive me for not making this clear in my Thread below asking for advice on a replacement. This theft is being covered under my homeowners policy, I am only out my deductible. My insurance company which has been great to work with actually is recomending the Mdl 700 for a as close as possible to my 140. http://www.mytractorforum.com/images/smilies/greendr.gif

Re: Stolen JD140 Thread.

I treid your link but don't see anything. Is it the X700 series your ins. comp. is recomending as a replacement? If so that would be a sweet deal if all you have to pay is the deductable.

Re: Stolen JD140 Thread.

You mean they are wanting to trade you up to a ten thousand dollar machine and you said let me think about it? :fing20:
Why do you say that the 700 doesn't have a mower deck? No offense to the 140 but what do you think it was worth? Sounds to me like their covering allot of sentimental value.
I'd be back on the phone with your agent while I was driving to the dealership.
Welcome to the forum and let us know how you make out by putting some pics on (tonight).

Re: Stolen JD140 Thread.

Exactly what insurance company do you have? I think I want to switch my policy! That's some replacement insurance plan you have there.

I had a 2009 X540 last winter, I now have a 2010 X728. The reason I upgraded was for the hydraulic angle & lift snow blade. After last year with 5 snow storms of 20" + my hand could not take it any more (manual angle). That thing is hard on the hand. I would go with the X7xx even if I had to put a little extra money to it.

Re: Stolen JD140 Thread.

That would awesome. Sign me up. Maybe we need a clarication on what is a "Mdl" 700.

Re: Stolen JD140 Thread.

So we are clear ( most of us aren't) !

But I also agree with ABC on just finding another 140H3 to restore & Use:thThumbsU

Pleaaassssseeee, his insurance company is going to buy him a new tractor.
That is why he pays his premiums, so if something bad happens, and it did, his tractor got stolen.
So now, he gets a new one, I think some of yous think it is a bad thing for his insurance to buy him a replacement tractor.
Pretty soon, some of yous are going to start getting jealous that he is going to get a brand spanking new 700 series out of this deal:sorry1:

I don't see that anybody is jealous but definitely confused. His 140 was a couple grand maybe more I could be wrong but the X700 is ten grand. If you've ever dealt with an insurance company you'll know why this is hard to understand.
I guarantee you we all feel for him and wish him the best.

Please be careful with your insurance company. I put in a claim and I'll never do it again even with my new company.
It would have been cheaper for me to pay for the damages than to claim them against my insurance.
To be more clear-
there were $4500 in damages. I paid my deduct. They paid the rest.

My premium went up. I would have had to pay over $2000 more each year than I had paid previously to stay with that company.

What my claim turned into was a loan from the insurance company.

Please be very careful and ask what your premium will be BEFORE you agree to anything.

The only way I'll ever claim anything ever again is if I can't pay out of pocket or can't get a loan to cover the loss.

They don't give away money cause you're cute or in trouble. It's just a loan - don't forget it. There is a reason their stock price and dividend is so good. It's because once they get your cash they don't let go

Since this thread has veered off topic I'll just keep it going. I get the read that the OP has a replacement value policy which probably costs him a sizeable wad of cash every year. Most people (me included) buy the minimum for insurance to keep the cost down but also get the minimum for coverage for a claim. I met a guy recently who has tons of insurance; if his wife chips her nail polish he can make a claim. But he also pays over $7.000 a year in premiums. Like anything else, you get what you pay for with insurance too.
