If they were using it to pull it’s nice they left the hydraulic lift. And that’s the first “dual spout” muffler I’ve ever seen on a RF. Wonder where it came from, I still haven’t sourced a muffler for Lightnin yet, wonder if that design helps with the heat dissipation.

I'm pretty sure Hapco Parts has stock looking replica mufflers for the round fenders.

Tyson, you need to salvage a draft plate for the front from one of your projects.

Actually, I know I’m gonna take flack for this, but I’m planning to put The Unicorn loader on the front of Edith. So, I’m actually in the process of pulling the beefy spindles off Bror, then I’ll pop them and the spiffy narrow rim tri-ribs that are on Johnny Crash right now onto the front of Edith…. The tri-ribs should allow for better steering with the loader on, I would think, wouldn’t they? I just can’t make Bror go, and it would be really good to be able to use the loader.

Sounds like you have a plan and a good one too!

She is a looker!! Did that era come with the wide front tires like that I thought all the round fenders came with the narrow fronts. You know we all love a project, but there is sure something to say about something real nice that just needs a tiny bit of fiddling to make right.

I’m not sure if the narrow rims/tires were ever used exclusively on the RF models. Maybe in 1963? But wider “floatation” tires were an option for much of the production run. In fact, the floatation tires were far more commonly used as far as I can tell.

I think you are right about the wider floats being used. I know when I was restoring mine the narrow rims, especially the front were at a premium and hard to find. The serial number tells what it came with from the factory.

Yeah, the narrow fronts and rears were very early, for sure… I have a set of narrow rear rims that I had planned for Johnny Crash, we’ll see what I do with them now

Well, now I feel a bit silly... I moved tractors around so that I could get at Bror's front end to pull the beefier spindles, I worked my patootie off to get his spindles out, I put the nice new spindles and tires from Edith onto Bror, then went to pull the tri-ribs off of Johnny Crash and... he's got a set of the heavy duty spindles! DOH! I totally forgot that. AND I did a lot more prep work on them apparently (looks like I shined them up with steel wool or something before I stuck the tri-ribs on)... So I could have just swapped the tri-ribs right from Johnny to Edith. Sigh... Now I gotta dig through my parts to see if I've got another set of spindles, since I'm thinking I want to keep the beefier ones from Bror... Just in case.

Oh, something else I learned tonight about Edith... The dual-stack exhaust is a sham... One of them is just a chrome exhaust tip welded onto the side of the muffler... Totally cosmetic...

Thanks for revealing that! Saves me lots of time searching for one because even if non functional it looks really cool. The muffler is one of the big stumbling blocks for Ol Lightnin’ because 63 didn’t come with the heat shield and I’d rather not heat the original hood nor do I want to add a later year heat shield.
Great you’re making progress on Edith, sometimes all it takes is something new to get back to an old flame. I didn’t even know there are two spindle sizes but I guess with a loader you’ll need something heavier duty. I don’t recall rear ballast weights being available for the RFs, just wheel weights. I’d ship you the custom made slab that came with Lightnin’, between postage and duty it’ll probably only be about $1,000… 😳

There were slab weights available for the round fenders. There were brackets to make them fit the front and rear. Part number M11029 if my memory and notes serve me right. They are pretty expensive little units! There were also rear weight boxes for the loaders that were available.

Hadn't thought of it THAT way, but... Yeah... :)
I've noticed couple other little things, like whoever did the restore didn't actually use c-clips on the spindles (just some sort of thin spring clip that's hard to get on and off) and it looks like there's green overspray on some of the yellow parts, so some stuff was painted when assembled, but... certainly not enough for me to experience buyers remorse. She runs, that's what counts.

They're not actually a different size of spindle, they're reinforced with a extra chunk of metal welded onto the curve of the spindle to try to prevent them from collapsing

Oh and in terms of rear ballast weights, my Johnson comes with a ballast box (that sounds kinda bad! :) ). That's another thing I'll have to pull off of Bror.... Might be a spring project to do the rest of the swap, as things are starting to get a mite chilly up here...

Well, I got the tri-ribs onto Edith last night, and stuck the grotty old rims from Bror onto Johnny Crash... Turns out I have ANOTHER pair of the beefier spindles in my box o' many tractor bits, so I guess I could put a set back on Bror if I get motivated. Took the loader weight box off Bror, was gonna take pictures of the tri-ribs but I gashed my knee on the weight box while I was undoing the bolts so now I'm in waiting for the clot to thicken before I do anything else...

I did have to steal an inside front wheel bearing from one of my parts rims because one of the inside ones from Bror was totally crusty-rusty and wouldn't spin at all... So I got to degrease and clean up a couple bearings last night. Looks like I can get the outer bearing (JD8188, which cross-references as Timken LM11949 Bearing) for about 5 bucks Canadian, should have a pair of those here tomorrow.... The one I can't find for cheap is JD8906, which cross-references as Timken LM11900LA-902A1, they look like they go for anywhere from 27 Canadian to 65 Canadian. Dunno if anybody has any suggestions where to get those ones...

Whoops, looks like I've stopped bleeding, maybe I'll pop back outside and keep digging through parts buckets...

Here in Canada, Motion Industries (not the cheapest), and/or find local bearing suppliers. Locally, for me, Alco Industries is pretty good at sourcing stuff, and will bring stuff in from the states if necessary (I also get belts from them). Grainger might be able to get it.

I doubt anybody will stock that bearing, if it's the combo bearing/seal job that shows up using google.

The OP's 110 looks great.
Have two round fender 110's. One was my fathers, bought in '64. Younger brother had it until 12 years ago, and asked me if I would be interested in restoring it. Said yes. Took it all apart and had a professional sand blast, prime, and paint with JD paint. Have yet to find a fuel tank for this 110 (flat fender tanks won't fit as the hood of the RF is narrower). So it sits on the bench in parts ready to go back together.
Had another RF pop up on CL that was close and good running order, so bought that a few years back, thinking I could use it for reference if putting Dad's back together presented any problem. It has just been sitting there, and may soon have to put it up for sale. It too is a '64. Tires are original, so I was told, and still hold air. One of these days, I'll have to make a move on both of these.

Well, if you decide to sell take advantage of the For Sale and Wanted to Buy forum to post them up on. However, I'd want to keep that family heirloom in the family so I'd recommend getting that one back together again.

There is a guy who sells on eBay who very likely has an RF fuel tank. Search for “georgiadeere” as the username and send him a message.

The very first garden tractor in my life was Edith's big sister. A 112 with hydraulic lift that my Dad bought used in 1972. Wish I still had her now. Spread 35 tons of dense grade one weekend with my sister sitting on one fender and my mother sitting on the other! Little tractor didn't know the meaning of the word quit. Congratulations!
