Saw an ad on CL for a non running Sears Tractor with carb issues.
I was first of a few callers
So I went and picked up
Here are some pics.

Cleaned all the gas out and cleaned carb and she runs like a dream Working hour meter says 380 I think
He was original onwer. I got all the manuals.
He also had 4-40 pound Sears plastic wheel weights and real heavy duty tire chains. $240.00

I am envious. What a great find! Got to love the filter placement on this tractor.

It was actually $200. I gave extra $40 for weights and chains. It did have the worst smelling gas ever in it!!!:tango_face_surprise
It is so different from other Sears tractors because of Hydro.
i din't know dash was aluminum and a little different shape, rear rims mount reversed from normal due to axle length. Has 10" wide rear tires. It is just bigger normal
VTX I am jealous of your 990 collection so I guess we are even. LOL

After mowing with it, I think the hydro might be my favorite Sears to use. Although it only has 42" deck. I need to put one of the 48" deck on it and it will be awesome.

You stole it, and I'm jealous. You might want to check in the manual, as you have it, to see if there's any recommended lube work needed on the hydro. Lower budget hydros indicate 'lubed for life, no maintenance required for the life of the unit'. Well, that's nice if you don't mind replacement a few years down the pike. Older units had more integrity(dunno if that's the right word) and told the truth about needing to rejuvenate the working fluid as heat/time/mice made things looser and caused lowered operating pressure and reduced performance. Rejuvenation being a drain and refill with the 'right stuff'. Back when that was made, available lube might have been 10W30 motor oil, maybe 10W40, or even 80W90. I'd find out and consider doing a bit of maintenance when it cools off and the grass slows before needing to drag out the plow, etc. You are near Cleveburg, at least I remember Chardon being near, and having a lake, but that was back in the 70's, so it may have moved. Hah. So you'll get snow before you know it, lake effect?, don't know, but you have time to do a bit of work before it gets too cold.
Oh, FWIW, you might want to pull the battery and take it into a bit warmer area if you plan to use it when it gets real cold. Don't let it go flat and freeze, as it will make a mess if discharged or low, and left in the cold.

HOLY CRAP! you stole that!

That is a really nice tractor. I have one of these and really like it. My biggest issue is water in the gas. I keep it under a metal carport out of the weather but still get water in the gas. It might be condensation accumulating in the metal gas tank. Does your forward/reverse lever creep forward causing the speed to increase on its own? Good luck with your tractor.

Sweet score man!!! Best money you ever spent I bet! :)

The direction lever was modified by po so as to not have to lean so far forward. The hood is broke at hinge screws (imagine that) but he installed metal plate to hinge on.
He has all kinds of paperwork from maintenance thru the years.I added a little trans fluid Type F per manual. She is nice to mow with
Now i found a Sears loader :thThumbsU:thThumbsU
I just can't decide since I already have the Case 646.
The other half is going to kill me. So many tractors so little time. I passed on a GT19.9 was only an ok deal.
But I love my old Sears tractors.
