This massive hunk o' metal came with my tractor and while it works great, I'd sure love to be able to reverse it and use it as a drag as well. There are no visible pins holding it in place except for the one at the bottom of the main shaft, which I believe isn't holding it in place at all, I think it's there to hold the rotating arm up. The other, obvious, spots for there to be pins are empty so I'm not quite sure what's going on.

I've sprayed it with penetrating oils, used steel pipe to pry on it, whacked around it with a 4# hammer, and most recently even tried to push it free against an oak tree... this thing 'aint budging.

Is it just rust or is that derned pin at the bottom really holding this thing together?? Thanks in advance.

my guess is that sleeve pivot is all rusted.... if you can get some more oil down there, try tilting it all the way one way or the other, set the end of the blade into the grond, and rock it back and forth with the tractor.... heat might be needed to free it too.... if it set for a while could be rusted tight....

If you have some trees large enough and spaced the right distance apart, hook a chain around the blade frame where the 3pt braces come together and run the chain under the tractor and out the front to a tree. Tighten this chain w/ the tractor. The w/ a chain and comealong connected to a tree behind the tractor and a shackle connected to the piece w/ holes in it along the bottom of the blade get a hard pull on it and start whacking the other end of the blade w/ a sledge hammer. If this doesn't make it start moving then some O/A heat is gonna be needed. When you get it freed up slide the blade off the pivot pin, clean everything up good. Drill and tap a 1/8" NPT hole in the outer part of the pivot for a grease zerk.

Good ideas! Especially the zerk fitting... I'll try that later today or tomorrow. I used the blade for a few hours today grading gravel thinking it had to break free... nope.

What is that trailer tongue that is hooked to it in those pictures? It looks like the tube of the blade that the bracket with the trailer ball on it is welded to needs to spin with the blade. Have you tried turning the blade without the trailer hooked to it?
Thanks for the response but the trailer was hooked up temporarily while I was taking the trash out. :fing32:

Can't tell for sure in the pics, but it appears there's also adjustment for attack angle which is probably seized up tight too. If you have to use the O/A heat it would be a good deal to get that freed up also. May be wrong but it probably only has a short pin in each end. If so you could drill and tap for zerks on it also. That adjustment is handy to make the blade cut more or just finish grading. You might as well go all the way on zerks and while the angle pivot is off the frame, go ahead and remove the tilt pivot and put a couple of zerks on it.
It looks like a well built outfit. If you can get everything freed up and lubed it will give lots of good years of service!!

That bolt at the bottom only holds on the bottom collar that keeps the part that is suppose to rotate on. If you have access to an acetylene torch (plumber torch won't work) heat it up real good and try to move it. If it does not then let it cool, the expansion and contraction from heating and cooling should help break some of the rust bond.

Thank you! I'll admit I'm a bit of at a loss for what I'll be using this guy for moving forward. Last weekend I stocked up on implements and bought a 6' box blade with tines and a 6' landscape rake.

Yesterday I used the box blade and chewed up some gravel (mostly dirt) on one of my driveways, got it fairly smooth and level and then went over it with the rake just to do some grooming. Not sure where the scraper figures into the picture there.
