I dont have any links,but I've read that some have found new Tecumseh carbs built by the Oregon Chain Co.--also read that a Tecumseh carb kit wont work on theirs,you must buy it from Oregon,due to slight differnces,probably to avoid patent infringements..

 

If you go with a new carb it's not going to be fully adjustable. I 'm not sure it they get any better fuel economy.

OR you can buy a brand new carb for a cast iron Kohler, still readily available from any Kohler dealer, for MUCH less than the Tecumseh one was the last time it was available; and it will be fully adjustable. Seems like someone on here was running the carb from a K181 on a HH120 and said it did exceptionally well and bolted right up.

That was Jon, searstractorfan, he used a carb on a 12Hp Tec that he got off an 8 or 10 hp Kohler. Said they bolted up, but linkages have to be modified. I think he said it ran much better than the old Walbro that was on it.

 

I have also used a carb from the K181 8 HP Kohler on a HH120 and HH100. The 10 HP and bigger carbs are to physically bigger and will not bolt on like the 8 HP carbs do. Most of the linkage modifications are minor and the Tecumseh runs much better with the Kohler carb. Roger

 

Where are you finding a new replacement K181 carb? Partstree has some individual parts but not the whole carb (says discontinued).

 

I didn't say I used a new one. I rebuilt one (actually several) that I have bought at tractor swap meets. I don't think they have been available for a long time new. Roger

 

i put a k301 or 12hp kohler carb on my hh120 (with an adapter) and runs really really good.... best that motor has ever ran started etc etc..... has anybody ever had a tec that that could start idling without the choke after its sat for a few days? i do now with that carb on it....

 

I have never had an issue with stock carbs on tecumsehs. I have owned an HH80, HH120, and an OH160 all ran great. I have also worked on an HH100 and another HH120, all stock carbs, all good power, all ran great. :dunno:

 

Consider yourself blessed then!..I'd go buy a powerball ticket NOW!...

My experiences with Tecumseh carbs is that your lucky if one out of 6 ever runs 100% "right"...either they dont idle,or wont accelerate under a load without stumbling,or they constantly "hunt" up and down...no matter what you try to fix them...it seems you either get a good one,or its junk..once they sit with old gas varnished up in them,its usually "curtains" for them...

I need to send my carb off to Mark, I think I have butterfly wear, it always has a little miss in it whether at idle or WOT. I need to go steal, err, I mean borrow some Kohler carbs from STF,
