Older Harley Sportsters had no left hand threads and the engine rotated clockwise.

Fuji (Wisconsin Robin) used to make a reverse rotation engine used on a tile saw. I have only seen one.

 

I don't need it to run both ways. Just the other way.

I floors me that I have been around small engines my whole life and not realized they all turn the same way.:banghead3

 

Some engines with a gear reduction box are reverse rotation..I had a Wisconsin one,that I put on a home built tractor,only to discover I now had three speeds in REVERSE and only ONE forward gear!.. ..I gave it to a friend who had an identical engine on a Gallion asphalt roller,that he was very glad to get,thought he'd NEVER see another one like it!.

I later learned from another tinkerer,that by using chain and a few spockets and an idler sprocket,it's fairly easy to drive the device your powering with the engine off the "back" side of the chain,to reverse the rotation..he saw that method used in a snowblower transmission to get reverse,and he copined it--made a plate that bolted to the engine to hold the sprockets and idler..worked great!..

 

I am just brainstorming repower options for my 318.
I think a vertical bore Kohler would be neat.

 

The 318 uses a standard rotation engine, taking propulsion power off the flywheel end and PTO output off the crank snout. The driveshaft on a 318 terminates with a four bolt flange that bolts up to the flywheel.

 

Yes. I have one tore apart in my garage. I was looking for an engine that rotated backwards because I didn't know that I could buy stub shafts for other motors.

Might all be moot anyway because so far the p218 looks good inside.
