Besides the obvious larger cutting swath from 42 inches to 54 inches, here are a couple more.

Speaking of deck size; I can't believe how much quicker it is to cut what I need to cut. It has cut my time down by at least a third. The quality of cut is also better. My 42' deck on the X300 seemed to scalp a lot no matter how I had things adjusted. Now, the cut on my GT245 is even everywhere I go.

The power difference is nice as well. I use my tractor to not only cut the lawn, but I sometimes need to cut paddocks where our sheep graze. When those get really tall I'll use the bush-hog on my 755. But when the grass is less than 12 inches, I can now cut it with the GT245. An added benefit here is that the deck on the 245 is actually wider than my bush-hog and it does a neater job.

I originally wanted the larger 245 for the weight difference. I was constantly loosing traction in some areas with the X300, not anymore. The 245 has had NO issues with this, at least for now.

Another benefit I hadn't really thought of was the overall ride. The 245 runs over bumpy areas more smoothly because of the larger diameter wheels, nice.

About the only thing I've found so far that I like about the X300 over the GT245 is the ease of steering. The 245 steers harder, but this may be a maintenance issue, not sure.

I hope this may help someone deciding about which tractor to buy. For me, I'm hooked, I'll never again buy a smaller tractor.

Not sure how I missed that before, but I'm going to do that myself on my 325. Just ordered the parts from McMaster-Carr.

is there something wrong with 48 inch deck? Isn't the 48 inch the same exact deck on x500 series?

And c'mon JavJacob-- you wouldn't be caught dead on a lawn tractor..

Congrats Tom- glad it worked out for you-!!

Could be due to age, as my GT235 was starting to get harder to turn as the years went by. The other is that the x300 series and x500 series have 2 steering links instead of just the 1 the GT235 and GT245 had. So instead of 1 link pushing and pulling, the 2 are both pushing and pulling on each front wheel to help turn easily.

Had carpal tunnel surgery yesterday so I'll be 1 handing it for a bit. Had the wife stop my the JD Dealer on the way home from my follow up appt today for a suicide knob. Got home and had the oldest daughter give me a hand installing it so I can still cut the grass while I'm healing. The poor mans power steering mod, coupled with the suicide knob made a nice combo!
