Hey Guys,

New to tractor ownership - Bolens G10 received free from a friend. Looking forward to being a part of your forum. I have an immediate need for help: The G10 runs fine without load, but when going through anything thick/heavy (we have a couple acres of "natural" landscape - weeds), it bogs and dies consistently. Any thoughts?

Thanks for your help!

A thorough tuneup would be a good first step,if the tractor has sat idle for any length of time, make sure that the gas is fresh and the filter,if it has one is clean.Beyond that I would start checking the revolving parts on the deck to make sure everything turns freely and is properly lubricated,if the bearings on the deck are tight,it's going to take power away from the engine.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I adjusted the fuel screw on the carb and the governor and that seemed to do it. Only other issue I'm having is the alternator must not be working - the battery won't
Remain charged when running the g10. I use a trickle charger overnight and it's fine but I cannot restart for very long if I am out mowing. It does have an alternator right?

Oh there is one other thing - the deck belt. Occasionally when I'm in some thick brush and stuck, the blades get hung up and the belt starts smoking. I stop the PTO as soon as I se it. For this type of clearing, will I be going through belts often?

Thx again. PS will do on the thorough cleanup- I was just pumped to get out and clear some weeds.

Welcome aboard Brian. Remember it's only a 10hp and not necessarily designed to do brush-hogging. And it's approaching its 40th b-day.

Look in the sticky section for a wiring diagram for your G-10, make sure you have all your wiring intact. Might be a simple fix on the charging system. If you haven't done it already, change your oil, plug, fuel and air filters. Check the condition of your tranny fluid/gear lube. I would seriously consider changing that too if you want it to keep on trucking for 40 more years. The gearboxes on the mower deck need to be topped off also.

Update- starting and running very well. Keeping battery on trickle charger - keeps enough charge now to be able to stop/start, so possibly was a problem of not fully charged battery.

Tensioner spring on deck not tight enough - blades slow or stop too easily. Replacing spring with home depot universal spring(s).

if the tractor has been sitting for some time i would clean all the battery wires and grounds. also if not charging and hard starting take the starter/gen apart, check the brushs and clean up the armacher sorry on the (spelling)
