While changing oil on my Craftsman 917.272190 Deluxe Lawn Tractor a piece of foil from the oil bottle seal got into the oil. What is the best way to flush it out of the engine. I have not started the engine as of yet.

Hello, Jstark5, and welcome to the forum. Sorry for the circumstances that have brought you here, but I think that we'll be able to help you out.

My thought on this problem would be to get a clean container and drain the crankcase oil into that, hoping that the piece of foil would drain out. If not, leave the drain open and continue to pour the clean oil into the engine until it flushes the metal oil. At some point it should, and you can put the plug back in and use that clean oil to fill 'er up and be in good shape.

I'll move your post to another location where some others may have a better thought on your situation so you can compare ideas.

Good Luck, and hope to see you around the forum on a regular basis.

Good morning Brad. I appreciate the empathy. Previously, I attempted to do the that which you have suggested, but did not have sufficient quantities of oil on hand. I also tried blowing air into the filler tube with the plug off watching for the foil, as well as suctioning the drain pipe with a vacuum. Should I try a different weight oil for this thinking that thinner oil might "float" the foil out? Another question: The engine has a spin-on oil filter. Is the oil filtered by the oil filter PRIOR to going into the engine? Is there a chance the oil filter might catch this piece of foil? Jeff
