Ok here are numbers i found on tractor and where these numbers are located:
C343882 - right hand side stamped on pad behind starter
C343882C-id plate under hood
C9NN6015A-above oil pan on right side of block
C7NN7006AK-right hand side of gear box (both shifting levers (HI/LO & 1st-8th levers) are located on top of box
C9NN-9425-b- exhaust manifold
i loaned tractor to a family member and of course it came back and what ya know NO CLUTCH or PTO:Disgus: I bought a manual a year ago but for some reason it is for ford tractors before 1975.

the hood of tractor has the ford 3000 decals on both sides but dang if i can say for sure if tractor is a 3000. I know its a ford tractor with a 3 cylinder diesel motor. I have owned tractor for 2 years and had no issues. Well let me take that back; have to spray a shoot of ether in air intake to get it to start and i have replaced the voltage regulator and the wiring harness last year because tractor would not charge battery. Battery still won't charge so I was gonna do generator next, :duh:eek:nly thing left in electrical system i do believe. But thats not the big issue NO CLUTCH or PTO is the main issue. Yes i checked hydraulic fluid by removing plug on top of gear box by shift levers and plug on top of rear end under back of seat.

I will post pics tomorrow. like i said had no issues till now. I don't want to get the wrong parts cause i really need to get tractor back up and running bad. Got 5 acres that needs to be bush hogged and grandson is gonna disown me if i don't get tractor back running so he can style and profile with Papaw.

alternators came out on 63-64 or so.. if u have a generator on ur's it will b before 1975..

#3 ·
thanks for the info however i am still unable to verify any of the numbers according to the IT manual i have. I have either to many characters or not enough characters according to the manual.

as for the generator/alternator deal; i am presuming that a alternator on a tractor would look pretty close to what a alternator on a truck/car looks like and what i have is not any where close to looking like a alternator.

#4 ·
all alternators I seen have an aluminum case.. genny's have a steel case

#5 ·
well its a generator then cause it is a steel case. thanks hopefully somebody can help me out with the other numbers.

I'm not a diesel mechanic.. I do a lotta work on ridin mowers.. at least u may have ur tractor dated somewhat now..

found a post dated sept 2017 by gremmy. at end of that post there are two pics that show exploded view of steering and my steering looks like the second pic. not sure if that will be any useful info for anybody to help me with or not.

#9 ·
give gremmy a PM.. he may get u a lotta help.. if u can find his postin.. click on his name.. it will bring a drop/down list.. from that u can send him a PM..

no pics come up for me.. if u have them on ur PC use the "manage attachments' thing found a lil lower in ur postin..

#14 ·
guess i don't know how to post pics to post but here is what i just found when i went to take pics of tractor. on the pad behind the started above the characters *C343882* i found 2F03B and on pad below the characters C9NN6015A that are stamped into block i found these characters ⭐C387671⭐stamped into pad just above oil pan, on right side front of axel found C5NN-4012D on left side just above step on side of gear box C 7 NN 7006 AK

see my postin ##13

tried the manage attachments but got a v bulletin that said i had exceeded my limits????????????
I think ur pics r too big.. I use a camera for my pics.. (camera will let u size ur pics smaller).. I have to take the card out of the camera & upload them to my PC with an adapter.. then I use the 'manage attachments' thing.. it will bring up a lil window .. then to transfer the pic.. find them first & upload one at a time.. somewhere in the process u will have to 'open' the pic to get it to upload..

can u do a copy/paste of that link where the pics r.. post the link here..

Looks like you found the 2nd and 3rd lines of the data on the bell housing behind the starter. 2F03B indicates build date '72 June 03 Dayshift. C343882 indicates a 3000 and the 343882 falls in the '72 year range. For what it's worth, there should have been 1 line of data inboard of those numbers that would tell it is a diesel, what plant it was built in, what pto it has, and what transmission. For example, my 2000 has this as a first data line: B1023C. Hope this helps

The C at the beginning of the serial number does not indicate that it is a 3000. the C at the beginning of the serial number just says that it was assembled at the plant in the US. Serial numbers beginning with an "A" were assembled in the Antrwerp Belgium plant and "B" serial numbers were assembled at the Basildon plant in the UK.

The letter at the beginning of the model number tells you what series it is (200/300/400, set) and the next two characters in the model number tell you which specific model within the series. Examples:

C10 - 3000 series general purpose ag chassis (generally called a 3000)
C40 - 3000 series Utility chassis (generally called a 3400)
C50 - 3000 series Industrial chassis (generally called a 3500)

Your Line 1 data (model #) that you've not found yet is likely C1013C. Translates to 3000/agricultural/live 540 pto/8speed transmission. With the info you have in hand and once you determine the parts you need, a phone call or visit to your CNH or Messicks or any other major parts supplier should suffice to line up the correct repair parts. In those days, Ford tended to use the same parts in generation after generation and model to model as a matter of economy to control production costs.

*C343882* behind the starter is the tractor's serial number, and means that the tractor was assembled during 1972.
"C" in the serial number means that the tractor was assembled at the Highland Park plant in Michigan USA.
As sad before 2F03B means June 3rd 1972, and that fits the serial number.

⭐C387671⭐ on the engine tells you that it is an engine for a 3000.

So far it points to a 3000. The other possibility is a 2000 with a 3000 engine. An easy way to find out if it is a 2000 or 3000 is to look for the spring for the draft control. If you can see a fat spring behind the driver's seat, then it is a 2000. 3000 had a cover over the spring.
Here you can see the spring on a 2000:

You have read the Id plate under the hood, there should be more information there, look:
VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION PLATE
The number under "MODEL" is the one you need to determine what you have.

Hoods can be swapped, best would be if you could find the model number stamped on the body somewhere in the area marked in attached picture.

Once you have the model number, it can be encoded with help from the left column on this page:
FORD CODES and SERIAL NUMBERS

Re: Pics of Numbers on Tractor

If you go back and look at the post the pictures are in it says nothing about needing help with ID or parts. It does say "Maybe these pics will show up", so I thought you wanted to know if they did show up and others could see your pictures. And I thought I would throw a compliment in there also.

Then I figured once you knew the pictures were up you would add a second, more detailed post, to explain why you posted the pictures.

I am still not sure of what the problem is, what parts you are working on, or what you need help with beside IDing the tractor.

I will try harder to read your mind next time.:tango_face_smile_bi

Keep on posting, with more details, and there will be someone along that can help. There are a lot of good knowledgeable people on this forum. Just have to wait for the right one to come along.
I will not be much use to you as I do not know the Ford tractors well at all.

On edit: Here is the post the pictures belong to: https://www.mytractorforum.com/20-f....com/20-ford-new-holland-tractors/1310755-need-help-identification-tractor.html

Thanks HakanTh for directing me to the right place for last characters. Yep its official the 'Problem Child" as i affectionally refer to her is a 1972 Ford 3000/agricultural/live 540 pto/8speed transmission.

Know to get her split and get a new clutch and all the other goodies that go with that installed. I will post pics soon as i get started. Wont be this week ?? as wife just informed me we have a storm moving in and should be here by Thursday. Just what i need. But soon as i start I will post pics a nd progress.

This will be my first ever tractor split so guess i get to lose my virginity one more time??.

Thanks to all the helped me out and pointed me in the correct direction and provided info for me. I apologize to all that i offended (JP Savage most especially) no excuse for me being such a A^^hole.

Thanks to all
