I started this build a year and a half ago. Gathered up parts and started my build, was about ready to make some progress when my camera broke. Sorry you missed out on most of the build, but will give you what I got.

This is some of the parts. I had already modified the ball joint spindles and started the front axle.

I've finished the front axle and started to lay out the frame. I built the frame in pieces because I had 9' of 3" channel and 8' of 4" channel left over from a trailer that I build 30 years ago.

I mounted the transmission to the cross member, attached the sprocket, and installed the shifter. The transmission is a 71 ford truck 3 speed. The shifter pattern is backwards, but to fix it the shifter and linkage would have been too high.

Welding up the frame and installing the axle and transmission. This is where my camera broke. Got a new camera, but I can't load pictures up to my old computer, have to learn how to email them from my wife's computer. Will get you updated to where I'm at soon.

When I built my garden tractor back in '63, I used the front plate off an old generator which had the exact size bearing to fit the end of the input shaft of the '38 Chevy tranny I used. You definitely need support out at the end of that input shaft; it is NOT intended to have that kind of pressure placed upon it.

I still don't have an engine, would like 10 HP or better.

The support bearing is on the front of the trans. in the sixth picture and will be bolted to a cross member.. The sprocket is mounted with the center out of a clutch disk with the help of some brass spacer bushings made from a pressure relief valve for an old water heater.

This is where I'm at now. Missed a lot of the build because of the broken camera. I'm building a old Ford T/A-Model look a like, Short Dog is what they were called here. I'm not up to K Smith's or Ray's standards, but I'm happy with it. Here is one picture, having trouble with my old computer or I could post more pictures.

Found another picture I had on Photobucket before my computer crashed. I'm using my wife's computer and her email is not working.

That sure is looking good Don.
I did a double take when I opened the thread up this morning and saw the front of your tractor.
I had to go out and see if my narrowed model-t shell was still hanging on the wall.

You need to get a Wisconsin 2-cylinder engine for that.
I think it would look ( and work ) great.

Well you did a good hob on the grille shell ( the whole tractor for that matter ).
Just a thought here . ....
You should be able to pop those brake drums off the front hubs.
I think it would make the front look cleaner without having the empty drums inside the wheels.

Here is another picture.

I was working on the cowl, fitting 1" x 1/8" steel band that forms the curve.

To answer a few questions. It's a tractor geared for around 10 MPH in high. I had a 9" differential I was going to use, but when I removed the axles and housing from the old cougar it had an 8" so I got an 8" differential. I narrowed th rear to 48" the width out side of the tires is 56". I'm going to install a receiver hitch on it. A three point hitch is not in the plan. I have a 1959 430 John Deere with equipment.
Here is my other tractors.

Awesome Project :)

If your transfering photos from one Computer to another try this... Make a folder of all the pics you want to transfer to the other computer and save the folder to the desktop, Go to Photobucket, create a new album, go to bulk uploader and select the folder and select all pics and import all (this will take some time), then log onto photobucket on the computer you wish to transfer the pictures too and download the album.

Hope this helps, awesome build by the way, and a nice couple of tractors you've got there :D

I got the picture deal solved. Finely remembered my pass words and got everything opened up on my wife's computer. Mine is eleven years old I think it's time to trash it.

Here is a few more pictures. Install new brake drums a shoes as that was one of the things I didn't have. That about wiped out my build budget. Still don't have an engine, may temporarily use a small Kohler or Wisconsin Robin I have.

Thats a nice build! I spotted that Ford gear box a mile away! What model is it? I can understand a certain amount of thought went in to this project! Should you not incase the chain part?...to hold oil? Cant wait to see what you choose for a motor!

Nice build Don. keep up the good work!

What motor are you looking to use for permanent use? or could use? ( sorry if I missed that)
