Hello all. I have a 2005 GT2254 wit a B&S 22HP ELS V-twin engine (Mod#40H777). About 2 weeks ago it developed a miss under load. I adjusted the valves to .005 at TDC, popped in new plugs, new fuel and air filter. The miss has now progressed to excessive fuel consumption, serious loss of power, black smoke out of exhaust, and raw fuel smell all under load. Any ideas? :praying: Thanks.

Ok so you're running on one cylinder. This means you are getting fuel, but only to one cylinder, so the carb/intake and anything before that is not an issue. You are getting spark because you verified this.

What I would recommend now is to pull the valve cover again, and make sure the valves are operating as they should. Right now I can only logically guess that one of your valves is not working.

Pulled the valve cover and behold, a tappet had backed out of arm and pushrod was just laying in there. Also found a valve seal had come out partially. I guess this is common on this engine. Ordered a new complete head and pushrods because I don't trust trying to fix the valve seal and be back in the same boat a week, month, or year from now. So we have a solution, just waiting on the parts. :thanku:
