deere 214 variator questions

I am going to look at a deere 214. Supposedly in very nice shape except for the fact that the variator sticks when the tractor is hot. I am assuming that it needs to be taken apart and greased and cleaned? Any thoughts?

This is going to be my first vintage tractor. I am looking for a tractor to pull a yard cart for firewood, and push snow. I may mow with it but I also have a newer l108 that I mow with now.

Thanks for the advice.

Sticky variators are common if they aren't lubricated enough. Just bring some WD-40 and a cloth. If you drown the dual pulley, the belts will slip and the tractor won't move an inch.

300 is a fair price and the starter is a no brainer, simple to fix,.Most likely will need new belts on the variator and free it up and you will have a nice tractor.

I can't think of a better $300 tractor for towing and pushing snow. If it comes with a mower deck and blade for that price that is more than fair.
