It looks like this is the one I order from GreenFarmParts. It says it is for 15001 + but since we don't know where your block came from???? who knows. I have never seen a 64 k181 so I don't know what it should look like. From what you have this should be correct. Famous last words.

Yes, the new one has the same # stamped on it.
The part # Smalljob posted is the correct #. I looked up my old receipt. It listed for $22.13 and I paid $20.12.

Sorry, I'm late to this and not trying to add confusion.
The # 232657 is stamped on my old and new dipstick. The Deere part # for my new dipstick is AM 31047.
Evidently the # stamped on the dipstick has nothing to do with the Deere part #., and I guess after reading back a bit I shouldn't say it's the correct # for you, just saying it appears my dipstick is the same as yours and AM 31047 is what I ordered to replace it.

I think that is only the Square Fenders I believe all RF had this style.

So your old 1 and new 1 are the same but the old one fit really loose and the new one fits tight ? Is it the rubber that shrinks over time ?

I just ran my serial.. got this info.. 1967 110 8hp K185S engine

YES.. they do tend to shrink & become smaller in diameter..

that number stamped on the shaft may b a part number issued by the engine manufacturer.. since Deere bought a whole engine.. to install in their machines..

The stamped number is not a PN. The AM31047 is what I order like Larry. If you look at JD parts that is for serial number 15K + and the AM31038 is for below 15K. I have no idea what a K181 for a 64 should look like. Need one of the guys that has one to chime in. My guess is your engine is not from a 64 so the 31047 is the right one.

Ok Thats what im going to order ,but im still not completly convinced this is not the right motor , other then the block being black instead of green and the oil pan drains out the front i cant find anything different from the other k181 i have

From the service manual it says the coil is moved for better access to the points and the oil drain is moved to bottom of pan for serial # above 15001 thats the only difference listed from 4000 up it talks about some internal differences

is it possible to have the oil pan on in a reverse mode to the engine..

Whoops 40000+ show internal differences with the cam , and exhaust valves

I dont think so because my oil drain is straight out the front neer the coil just like it shows in the book

That change was for the ACR I believe but it did not change the block. It is possible someone replaced the block and kept the original oil pan.

I should have looked at the color of my block & where the drain was when I got the dip stick info.. but me... I'd forget my head sometimes if it were detachable..
