With that one big outside tire, I think you may be good for some dirt track racing! :) Sounds like it will be a cool project!

Will it be a DIESEL Hydro-Trac ?...:D..

I think you'll need a sandblaster for this project....or just clear coat the "patina" and leave it as is,for a rat rod look !..

I have never seen one Hydro-Trac Suburban in person, that I can recall...
I wouldn't mind having one,I am getting tired of clutching,or should I say my left leg's sciatic nerve doesn't like clutching ..
Do Hydro-Tac's have low range,or just "infinite" speeds like most hydrostatics ?..

I got it running and driving the other day. Needed the gas tank drained, new spark plug, and some new fuel lines.

I thought it was missing the points, and that's why it didn't run, but after checking the spark, it had spark, so when I took the time off to clean out the mouse nest, I noticed it had a trigger style coil system.

"Infinite speed" adjustment- the clutch pedal is mostly for brakes When needed. It has a parking brake and a disconnect to roll the tractor when not driving it. I really like this thing. Feels like it's slower at high speed than a geared trans, but it has 1/2" wide
Belt that slips really bad

Never seen a "trigger coil" used instead of points before!....must have a condensor somewhere too I imagine ?..weird!..
I didn't see one- only wiring on the motor is from the ground wire on the ignition switch to the isolator wire which is connected to the coil so when the switch is off it grounds the coil, and the plug wire. Its super simple setup, and works OK, but the carb needs help- it's missing the rod from the governor to the throttle so I have no real control of anything. Idle screw sets engine speed and when it gets a load, it bogs down.

You should be able to invent a linkage from some stiff wire easy enough..

I wonder ,that trigger coil setup must be an aftermarket conversion,I dont see such a thing listed in the Briggs PDF parts breakdown, just points and a condenser..

I got the original linkage NOS coming from a guy on ebay for $6 - I can handle that much :)

I read somewhere that a company was making these coils, either as a replacement or they are used for other motors and work on these. the coil is made in Germany and uses whatever is on the flywheel for magnets. Basically looks like someone took the factory briggs coil and points off, bolted this thing on, and it runs... I think these conversion coils are like $24 online? I just saw them a few days ago...

something like this- Ignition Coil, 7-01622, 33-347, 29-1034, Replaces: Briggs & Stratton 490586, 491312, 492341, 495859, 715231 on sale from Tulsa Engine Warehouse

made for vanguard engines? This is what it looks like it has anyway...

thats exactly what it LOOKS like anyway... Says it can be used with motors using electronic ignitions.

Huh,yeah, its in my town...for 300 I'd like to be able to hear it run and see how well the transaxle works though--might need a solid state ignition by the sound of the ad-think I have a spare one "somewhere".....its tempting,I never had a Hydro-Trac version !..

But--I have 4 running useable Suburbans already, one with no engine, and a SS-16 chassis rusting out in the yard,...do I really need another one ?..

I hate when they don't have pics- wonder if that was the kid with the 14hp tractor he was trying to trade for my custome 10E but it was kinda cobbled together, and he couldn't get it to run...

I emailed the guy, he seems desparate to sell- It is a tecumseh HH120 version, so probably a 68 hydrotrac 12. He asked if I was interested, said I have 2 non runners right now, but I asked for pictures. Only way I would buy it (and trust me I don't really want to spend the money) is if he comes down to like $150

and that only after I delver my parts tractor to its new owner on saturday.

I may do this one in Cobalt Blue metallic and silver or white...

I forget how nice my SS14 was when I got it...

well, this build took a turn... I traded it to Tappermoon (tappermoon2) Kyle, for an equally or more rare and more desirable (to me) tractor last night...

Ill be starting a nother build thread for it...
