Has anyone here made a steel bumper for either a lawn or garden tractor? After replacing a couple to many Deere plastic hoods in the past I am considering a fabricating a steel bumper on the front to help protect the plastics. The one hood that I broke I fell on so this obviously wouldn't have helped in that case, the other couple were broke by previous owners. My thinking is this bumper would also create a very easy location to tie the mower to the trailer. I need inspiration, anyone have any pics?

Some can be bought. Although these have steel hoods.
Edit: and foot rests, Side panels, Fenders, etc.

I'm modifying a dual tube bumper for the Cub Cadet 2166... Not the same as making one, but yeah, they come in handy.

There's one on my CC GT2544 and I'll be fabing something for the Black Thing too...

My John Deere has a plow... Sort of a bumper on steroids.

Looking good guys, definitely giving me some ideas! I've seen those ones available for sale, I wasn't real impressed with some of them, others seem ok. I found this one thanks to google. I'm really liking it!

I built this for a DGS6500 a number of years ago. Actually, cdub806 built it, but as his dad, since it is my machine I claim the construction.

Great idea for a thread. I'm subscribed.

If you build one try to think of other ways it can benefit you and incorporate it into the design

I'll definitely be putting a couple D rings or tow hooks on for tie downs when trailered. Not sure what else I could incorporate onto one. Any ideas? Auxiliary lights would be cool but I rarely use either machine past dark.

:ditto:

I'd like to see more ideas as well. The OEM brush guard had to come off for my new front blade QA to work, so a mod/build is in my future too.

Receivers (single, dual, or both if you are into overkill) are a good way to allow for future additions, that way you don't need to think of every possible accessory beforehand. Personally, I would mount aux lights up a bit higher to keep them further away from mud, slush and sagebrush.

Not for nothing, but I think I'd figure how to get a winch in the front, surrounded by the bumper (for protection of the winch) you are making. I put a factory front bumper on my Polaris 500 ATP. Polaris says if I wanted winch, it was way one. no bumper, or the other, no winch. I built a platform for winch (modified winch mounting plate) and son used plasma cutter to fit it nicely into stock bumper. A bit of welding, spray paint, it looks stock and away we go.

This is not mine, and I did not make it.:dunno:

But I do have the same tractor and dang, I do like this bumper.:fing32::fing32:

One with springs in it would be good. I already cracked the factory bumper on my 522xi.

I designed & built this fold down bumper to fit on a Craftsman tractor..
