Larry,
Does yours have a roll pin anywhere? I cant find one on mine...
Mine did not have a pin in it.
Also I would soak it in some kind of penetrating oil when I got done for the day to try to help get it loose.

I'm not sure of the angle. i have another deck with the shaft still in it but I can't get to it right now with everything stored for winter.

Still working on the main drive spindle and just about got it out.
In the mean time I am disassembling the three blade spindles in order to replace the bearings etc. I see lots of bearing sets on Ebay but was wondering if anyone knows the corresponding Timken or SKF bearing part numbers. I would rather use these or a good equivalent if possible.

I haven't got that far on mine yet

I used JD parts. It has been awhile, but I don't recall them being terribly expensive.

Once you press the spindle out of the bearing housing you will need to remove the circlip at the bottom. The bottom bearing gets pushed from the top out the bottom and the top bearing gets pushed from the bottom out the top. There is a split ring inside that separates them and prevents them from pressing out in the same direction.

The bearings that are in mine are FAFNIR 204RR6 E8728.

Mine Model 39 deck is off a '79 210 and it had a roll pin… seems like the earlier ones don't have one. Mine came off with relative ease, knock the roll pin out and then 2-3 whacks on the bearing shaft and the whole assembly came off the deck.

As far as angle, let me find a thread of mine. It's definitely tilted towards the rear as compared to all the other pulleys on the deck.

Spindle bearings, I took a chance on eBay ones and they were $20 for a set of 6 (needed to do all three spindles). Seems a LOT bearings are sourced from China/Taiwan/etc… anyway nowadays. Even JD bearings I hear, though they could be held to higher standards/QA like anything else outsourced (doesn't matter where its made, but to what standard).

They are also available from JD, P/N JD9296 for ~$8 ea (online). Drive/PTO pulley bearing with integral shaft is M74707, ~$18.

Never mind, I didn't actually measure the angle of the PTO/Deck pulleys and my deck is currently all taken apart. Maybe someone else can check. I would take the measurement of the double pulleys and one or more of the spindle pulleys (as reference). You want the relative angle between those pulleys to be the same, not necessarily absolute.

204RR6 is "common" bearing # for the JD ones. You want ones with "agricultural" shields/seals and not just plain rubber.

I just bought (4) old stock Federal Mogul 204BBAR from ebay so I just need two more. I suspect the JD parts are currently made in china and I try to avoid anything made in china...if possible. I guess that's another reason I am restoring a 50 year old tractor made in the USA.

Thanks for the advice Larry. I had the bushing cherry red with 10 -12 tons of force on it and it was not budging. Cut it and turned it over and it came right out.

Put the deck spindles back together and scratched them up a bit in the process so I'll need to scuff them and re-coat them.

I had the auto refinishing supply color match the yellow that was on the tractor seat since it had been covered most of its life. I'm wondering if the color of the yellow seems too pale? Any opinions?
