That tractor is in firewood hauling mode, LOL...

I need to clear a spot in the garage for it. Sure, I can work on getting the blower installed in the shed, but the shed is surrounded by gravel, and I'm worried that coming down the ramp, the blower would scoop it all up. It's also not a straight run to the driveway from the shed, and that thing HATES to turn in deep snow (anything over 6 inches, really).

That tractor is in rough shape. It amazes me that it keeps going. The Kohler Command weeps oil all over itself, the gas tank is cracked, and the tires need tubes. The brakes need work and the steering probably needs to be refreshed. I don't want to spend much money on it, as I'm unsure about the engine. But, as long as the battery is charged, it always starts and runs!

I have a newer tractor in the shed, has the JB Jr. on it. That has a nearly new Kohler Courage repower, which was stalling for no apparent reason the last few times I cut the lawn with it.

But, the best answer would be to clean out the garage, get the tractor/blower and my wife's car in there, would only leave my truck out in the elements to be cleaned off.

Spring is coming, right???

BTW, the Thursday storm looks like it should fizzle. I'm supposed to get under three inches, and the cape will only see up to six. After the past few weeks, that's essentially a dusting!

'May Day' I still don't call 'spring.. 2 years ago ('13')we had fresh snow dumped on us.. that year too.. 4th of July was 107 F.. what weird weather we have had

Whatever falls this Thursday and Sunday will stay there!

Planned on removing snow from 2 roofs and finishing one this morning. Could only do a half job on finishing 1 and 2 aren't being done. The heat from the wood stove is helping, the Ben Gay is all gone, and I'm about able to move. The Town's plowed in the end of the driveway (again). Can't even look at a seed packet or a package of starting mix. I don't watch the news anymore. "....more snow headed our way...." . I've had it!

Mike...don't worry about storage. All my machines are outdoors: 3 are buried out by the pine trees, 3 buried at my back door, 2 more under 4 inches of crusted snow by my garage. Only 'working' snow machines are what I can squeeze into the back hall way.

Last year, I was planting the garden the first week of March.

Let's go back to before I went outside this afternoon. What can I say, other than I love this place! My wife thought I was nuts when I said I needed to take pics for you guys, then I reminded her that people buy plows, snowblowers, etc. and don't see a single flake for a whole year. That got her to laugh, because we all know people who have had that experience!

Mikeinri: Yep I'm afraid that I might be one of those guys you are joking about! My X758 was supposed to be put together this week at the dealer with Hard Cab, 47" blower & some misc. They had three of them on inventory between all the locations. Something messed up apparently and my new '14 wasn't available. I'm not getting a '15 model so that's cool to I guess! Be a couple more weeks though. I'm either thinking with my luck we'll have a huge snow in these two weeks or we will not get squat the rest of the season here in Central IA :hide:

Lots of luck with all yours out there!

Thanks. I'm with e2q, whatever comes in the next storm might just stay where God puts it. I need a break from moving snow so I can catch up on firewood and enjoy the snow that is already here!

The local news just reported another potential blizzard for Boston Saturday evening. Here we go again... :(
Don't panic (yet)... They were originally calling for blizzard conditions for tomorrow's storm, now it's down to a few inches. :dunno:

This is what has been issued for my area...
Wind chill watch remains in effect from Thursday evening
through Friday morning...

* locations...all of western and north central New York.

* Timing...from early Thursday evening through late Friday
morning.

* Winds...northwest 15 to 25 mph.

* Wind chill values...as low as 25 to 35 below.

* Impacts...frostbite and hypothermia are possible for those
without proper protection from the cold.

* Forecaster confidence...medium to high.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A wind chill watch is issued when strong winds will combine with
cold temperatures to create dangerously cold conditions for
exposed skin. The wind will make it feel like it is 15 degrees
below zero or colder for a period of several hours. If you will
be outdoors use common sense and dress warmly...making sure that
all exposed skin is covered. If possible...avoid prolonged
exposure to the cold to prevent frostbite and hypothermia.

Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or your favorite source of
weather information for the latest updates. Additional details
can also be found at www.Weather.Gov/Buffalo.

After hearing the gloomy forcast for the weekend,I guess I'd better dig out my buried carts of firewood, and get as much inside the house garage as I can--with 50+ mph winds expected, its a good bet we will lose power--hoping the sub-zero weather expected to move in friday night will keep whatever snow we get light and fluffy so it'll blow off the roof instead of adding to the 2 feet already on it now..:(

You guys up in the northeast -- stay warm!

Maybe on the bright side to all this snow?? When I was growing up in Mass., we lived in an old antique cape. It was a very drafty house -- the worst being when we'd get those windy January cold snaps with no snow. But when the big snows came, it would plug up the drafts around the doors, windows, and clapboard, and the house would seal up nicely, becoming cozy inside. The snow was like insulation!

Hopefully you guys are getting some insulating effect from all the snow too. Kind of like an igloo. :hide:

It was a bummer this morning. It was 25 degrees. I went out to start my truck, and it was raining. Not snowing, not sleet - RAINING! At 25 degrees! My windshield wasn't even frozen! Craziest thing I've ever seen. Didn't start freezing until I got halfway to work. Reports of upside down vehicles on my same route followed shortly after I got to work. Good thing I was an hour early. Still no snow.

I thought the same thing,my house isn't really "drafty",but after all the snow piles up around the foundation and on the roof,I bet it does add some insulation value...
But the furnace seems to run an awful lot regardless...
I just got 130 gallons of oil last friday and already I have used at least 20 gallons up,and I keep it at 60 degrees ,and use the wood stoves to help conserve oil...with temps expected to drop below zero tonight and only hit the teens to twenties the next week, the oil will get used up fast..:(

I notice my quonset garage feels warmer when I use the wood stoves when the arches are covered in snow, but it also makes water droplets condense inside and fall off the arches, like an indoor rain at times too...

I'm getting nervous about the depth of the snow on my house roof, but I dont have any long enough poles that will reach high enough to try and make a snow rake from ,and I am not really up to the task either, nor can I get very close to the house thanks to deep drifts all around it...
I am hoping whatever snow we get this weekend will be light due to extreme cold and will blow off the roof, not accumulate on it..I'm betting once it finally gets warm enough to melt,I'll have a disaster as far as leaks inside the house...:(..if it doesn't cave in first that is...:hide:

I need to cut some wood tonight after work. Our forecast is similar (wind chills overnight near 20 below). :hide:

One of the local weathermen says the storm for this upcoming weekend might be the end of the streak. Of course, the cold is going to stay/get worse, and the longterm forecast is showing another storm Tues-Wed... :dunno:

We've had snow squalls all day. It'll snow a dusting, sun comes out and melts it, repeat. Now its doing both at the same time. The front side of my house is just sun, the backside its snowing with sun. Kind of bothered by this odd weather pattern. It changes every 15 minutes. Then its going down into the negatives tonight making for a very cold weekend.

Similar here. And yes, very cold windy forecast this weekend (not as bad as these guys up north, but bad for us).

Too soon to say, but there are some murmurs in the forecast for what could be "seat-time" accumulations of snow, on Tuesday/Weds. We've heard that before several times this winter, only to have it fizzle, so I'm not counting on it.

But I have to say, so far this winter has been all about the northeast. Even the folks in the upper mid-west seem to be getting short-changed.:dunno:
