Dear MTF'ers:

I trust somebody out there will be able to help me. I have this old lawn tractor that I want to totally refurbish but don't know what it is and I need model specific part that I need. The tractor has been repainted from its original yellow/gold color. It has a 36" cut, two blade deck. Originally had 10 horse Briggs model #251707-0133 and Peerless 600D trans. At one time I was told it was a Yardman, late 60's but the MTD people say its not one of theirs.:banghead3

Please see attached photo's and let me know what this is..!!!

Thank You,

Tom Pinard

:Welcome1: I used to have one of those many years ago. Not sure what it is. Mine was sold by Barkers (an out of business chain store) if I remember right. Someone will be along that can help

That looks like my Sear LT10 (Circa 1976) with a different branding and color.

:Welcome1:

I'd say its definately a Montgomery Ward--my dad bought one identical to that one pictured brand new--it was mustard yellow and had a white hood, with identical body style, his was an 11 HP Briggs though..

I believe it was made by MTD or perhaps Murray, for Montgomery Ward..Gilson also made some too for them, but I don't think that's a Gilson..Ours had a model number of TMO-13877 or something close to that if I remember right,I had to buy new belts for it about once a month!..(not the tractors fault, mine, for not putting a new idler pulley bearing in it the first time!)..

I see the resemblence to Sears machines too, but the vintage would probably make it manufactured by Roper (pre MTD). At least that's my guess as Roper made lots of rebadged units for different stores.

Its a Monkey Wards (although I also don't know who made it), I have one here and its gold too, I'll look at it tomorrow, let me know if there is any way I can help.

Those glass headlamps are worth a few bucks on ebay as they will work on many marques, mine are in my Case 448.

P.S. Welcome to the forum.

The model # on our Montgomery Ward rider was located just behind the front wheel on the frame rail,on the right side,as viewed while siting on it!.

I found ours had the I.D. sticker there when I mounted the optional plow blade--the plow brackets bolt right over it!..

Look for a sticker there,it might be there still, probably painted over if it is though,be careful if you use solvent to remove he paint, most likely the sticker will be "erased" otherwise!..

I dont know why they use a stupid self adhesive sticker for the model I.D. on tractors, its bad enough real steel tags with stamped numbers fall off,rot away or get lost!..I guess they hope we'll junk them when it's time to buy parts, and we can no longer identify what the heck it is!..

drtap369, sure looks like a Yard-Man to me, if it was yellow & white color origonaly, it was (possibly) sold thru Montgomery Wards, built by Yard-Man.
i think it was though, Yard-Man was there own company before MTD bought them out.
i have parts list for the Yard Man mowers, but only go up to 7 h.p.
but it is a Yard Man, Tony
