Yes James. The very same. It's been stashed away until now. BTW, check out what else I had stashed. A tank and bracket that looks like it came off the 23. Same color, same patina. Oh, and a big Nelson can too. Haven't tried to run it yet. Probably redo the carb and ignition first. The tank is off a model 14 but fits perfectly.

Great lookin model 23.
They are getting harder to find.
I bought one this spring for $100.00

So, GT80's avatar has Hugh's loader in it. Looks like somebody has grown attached to somebody else's loader.
Well, I put my ss18 as my avatar. Can't help that Hugh's loader is on it can I?

I did some work on the SS16 finally- I took the hood off the Ugly SS16 I bouthg for parts from Timmy, and fixed the nosecone. I then proceeded to wire up some headlights, because it had nothing working since the hood was basically a lift off :)

I had noticed that when cranking (at night) it was arcing out and that it was hard starting as well... I looked at the plug wires, and they were automotive wires that had some splits in them causing the arcing. I pulled the wires off the 18/6 for now, and swapped them onto he SS16- fired up way faster, and purrs like a kitten (with loose nuts in its head- the valves need adjustment).

Another one is coming along...

:hide: not too soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's ok - I got the snowblower attached and running on the SS16, and finally got the darn tractor running right...which means we'll probably get about 4" of snow this year and I'll never need it.

I got a few more things done on the SS16 last night. I had a spare steering shaft, so rather than mess around with trying to get the old one off (especialy since it had a 3/8" bolt broken in the shaft already) I cut it off right below the steering wheel. Took a couple blades (Cheap ones don't cut well) but I got it cut off and with a BFH pounded the stub out of the wheel. Then I set out to clean up the wiring a little, put a correct throttle cable on it, and a new choke cable, replace the clutch bushing, and replace the motor. I had the motor off the donor SS16 that I bought from Timmy, and it has a lot fewer hours than the one that was in this tractor.

Three of a Kind :)

12mm socket and BFH to get the bushing started moving

11mm socket to drive bushing out the rest of the way

New bushing in place

Using a 3/8" drive extension and BFH to seat the new bushing

How the bushing sits when installed- I left it the full 1 1/8" long because you don't need washers this way

...And the finished product

Old style dash and "New" motor installed

I got it running, purrs like a kitten, but popped a couple times. I think it has an intake manifold leak or bad gasket, so I need to address that, but otherwise, it will be a nice stout machine now! I have to finish installing the steering wheel/shaft, hook up the headlights and put the hood back on (maybe paint it first like the one I am selling), tie up a few loose ends.

I noticed the older motor that I put in had a different wiring harness because the older tractors the wiring harness from the charging system hooked directly up to the VR (rectifier) and the new ones had a short jumper wire from the charging system to the VR (rectifier)- the older motor has a 3 wire harness because the harness plugs directly into the VR (rectifier) and the 3rd wire goes from the rectifier to the ignition- the newer style motor has a 2 wire plug, and the rectifier has a 3 wire- just a different way of wiring the same thing. I opted to use the old harness and rectifier, and I spliced the other wire into the iginition switch.

I need to change the drive belt, and I think it should be good to go! That's 1 down!

Nice going Bubb! Since you are working on a tractor I thought I would let you know Advance Auto Parts has an online sale today only. They are giving 25% off almost everything. The coupon code is CYBER if you want it. Good luck!

New belts??????????
Thanks for the heads up- I like the tsc belts and Napa ones better. Rick actually gave me a new belt with the tractor

Coming back together! I got a new belt on it tonight, tied up all the loose ends as far as wiring goes (except for the rear taillight and I want to add a work light to the rear), got all the shields put back on, new air filter, put missing bolts back in, -

finished the steering last night, installed my $5 air cleaner (thanks Ebay) last night - this motor runs well! Can't wait to tune it and drive it!

Its still ugly, but it's coming together! Thanks again Rick!

Nice going GT. Is it gonna get a coat of paint or just be an old work tractor?
Until I get sick of the blue nose cone it's probably no getting anything. If I paint it, it will be a brush job probably.

Nice. Even has all the side covers.

Thank You too James. I've been enjoying the heck out of the 725. It's the only one I've been using lately. Ordered some 2 link chains for the new try ribs. Swapping the rears Ags to turfs w/chains and gonna use it for snow duty. Might even try a blower on it.
The SS16 looks a lot better with a real dash on it! I bet it'll be nice with the low hour motor.
PS. I got that tractor from a cool old guy here in Buxton who was born in 1919.
