Did you hone the cylinder walls? rings the correct size? did you stagger the gaps in the rings so they don't line up with each other?

Yes,too much fuel can cause white smoke, faulty injector pump or injectors can cause that..so can the injector timing being off...sure its not using (losing) coolant??..anti-freeze makes white smoke when its burned too!..

I had a backhoe with a Fordson Major Diesel in it that smoked like crazy, until someone told me to "time it"..he had to show me how,it was way off too, surprised it even ran!..it ran much better after timing it,a lot less smoke, but it still needed a rebuild, probably from being drowned in unburnt fuel for years!..it ran great after we went through the whole motor..

I had to search many libraries before I found an old service manual that described how to set the injector pump timing on that Fordson--then I had to have a guy who had one in the past, show me how to do it step by step, and even he got confused trying to follow the procedure in the book!..we finally figured it out and got it adjusted right (well, close enough,we lacked a dial indicator)--and that helped it a lot as far as running better and less smoking..

You'll have to look for a service manual for your machine--perhaps there is something online ,try googling and see what comes up..

How about some pictures? I have a 154D also. It is all ragged out, but takes a licking and keeps on ticking. I have mowed down rose hedge over ten feet tall. The front tires came three feet off the ground before it pushed it down. They are one tough little tractor.

Thanks for the picture. Mine didn't have the air intake cover on it when I got it. I had one off a Farmall H that I put a reducer in to make it fit. The 154 is like a super duty 8N.

Just fyi, this is a pretty old thread, and even the newest post was 4 years ago, and that user hasn't returned to the site since a couple weeks after signing up. You probably won't get a response from anyone.
