Last shots for today.

A few more in action pics, then I have to get the wheels painted and the hood completed. Then I go back to sourcing a company to print some decals.

I really like the way this Suburban runs, drives and operates. What a terrific estate machine this is. Pushes like a tank, turns sharp, transaxle is easy to use...can't wait to get the grader blade on. Just fooling around with the dozer, it handled that large tree trunk and rock with ease.

Awesome tractor, your resto work looks really great. Thanks much for sharing and for the nice pics - I never get tired of looking at this kind of project.

Thanks fellas, I really appreciate that.

Here's another shot I had.

i assume that the hood and front wheels will be repainted?

Yep, I've got a way to go yet.

That hood is a spare off ebay that I just tossed on. The original was in need of some filler. I'm using this hood to take measurements to tweak the decals I am reproducing. All the wheels will be repainted in IH white, as will the front plow once I have it sandblasted. After that, it's down to the details like creating a new headlight panel and wiring up the tail light etc.

Once I remembered how to set the points, it fired right off. It does run really well. I can hear the classic Tecumseh rod knock, although very light. I hate to go back in after the resto and do internal engine work, but that's may end up happening. For now I will run it in the lower RPM range.
TheSaturnV, Great Thread, and real good looking tractor. Thought I'd jump in in the engine knock issue. I don't know how common the Tecumseh engines are. Would it be possible to pick up a second engine and restore from the inside out? My Craftsman II has a very noticable valve knock, and I was considering the same but I just happened to run across a second horz opposed B/S that I replaced pistons, bored and valves etc. It will be transplanted this weekend.

The tecs aren't too easy to find... I happened on a spare from the guy I sold my 16/6 too- threw it in as part of the deal. I won't sell it just cause it has a good solid state ignition on it!!

Thanks for the 2 cents and the compliments.

I think it's piston slap at this point. I've located a .020 piston and ring kit, and will be going back in one more time. I'm a novice at this stuff, but I really want to try to get this thing quieted down a bit. :lalala:

Wow, I hadn't noticed that handle. It really does look unusual. The only Photoshop work was to crop and adjust the levels a little. I didn't monkey with the hue or saturation. Thanks for the great comments, it's funny how the words of encouragement keep us rolling along with these restos.

:)

I like it...........
Do not even think of scratching that thing of I will have to come take it off your hands....LOL

I'm kinda late to the party, but wanted to say... That's a nice looking machine you got there! It really is amazing what a little paint and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of time will do. :fing32:
Did you figure out the red light on the dash? I can help with that. One side of the light connects to the generator output. the other side connects to the battery through the ignition switch only while it's in the run position. That way when you turn the key on the light lights. After the generator starts generating the light goes out. That's why at low rpm when the generator's output is less than the draw from the battery the light burns kinda dim. I think it's a nice feature. Hope that helps.

Certainly does Don, I really appreciate this. It's just one of the thousands of little things I have to get taken care of and this helps a bunch. I'll work on that this weekend. Too many tractors and cars, lol.

Guess this is what I get for not cking in more offen.Really bang up job you've done :trink40:I will ask one question--Have you considered a fuel filter? You may have one of the screen ones inside the tank already.I just know you need to protect that carb.at all costs;ain't so easy to deal with as I remember.A tec.engine that's tuned in just so,is one of my favorites for sure, and your paint and body work is outstanding!!All in all--great job.:trink40:

Thank you very much, I appreciate the compliments.

As a matter of fact, the carb is giving me fits right now. The float is sporadically sticking and it keeps flooding out and ruining the paint on the top of the chassis. Think I will take the carb apart AGAIN, blow it out, check to see if the new float is already bad and then add an inline filter.

Thanks again.
