What size hitch ball?

I need to get a hitch ball to put on my Hitch n Post but have no idea what size to get. I'll be using it to pull a rented wood splitter a couple times a year, a borrowed flat trailer that I use to move brush and wood around and whatever else I might rent or borrow that has a ball mount on it. I've never bought a hitch ball before so I was wondering if there is a good all purpose size for the small stuff I plan to use it for?

Thanks

Thanks rrmccabe. I guess I'll just have to buy one of each size, at least they aren't expensive. Besides, you can never have too much balls.

Thanks, I'll pick up a 1-7/8" and a 2". That way I should have all the balls I'll need.

For around the yard, I just run the 1 7/8", and use it on everything, including the trailer that takes a 2 5/16" ball. If it's got some tongue weight, it's no biggie on a flat yard. Obviously, some common sense is involved...

I would get the converter ball. The shank stay on your tractor and one pin changes the ball to whatever size you need. Throw the others in the toolbox and you will be set with whatever you need.

Just get the 1 7/8 ball and it will work on all the toungs cause you wouldnt be going fast enough to do any thing.
