A guy is wanting to trade me a Simplicity 7013 for John Deere 112. The 7013 Runs and Mows but does have a carb leak(?). The Simplicity is hyrdostatic with hydraulic deck. I am not sure how much this mower is worth. That's my main concern. What is the asking price for these mowers? What is one expected to pay for one?

I don't know much about the 112, so I can't speak to the trade. BUT...a 7013 with hydrostat AND hydrolift is a very nice machine. The leak would be an easy fix, if that's indeed what it is.

Here, with only a mowerdeck, I'd say a Baron would fetch $400-600 in good shape. With that paint job, and a tune job needed, it would lose some customers, and I'd say knock off $100-150. Barons were the lower tier of machine back then, but this one is decked out with the hydro options and lights. I'd be suprised if it is even a true Baron (7013), but it may be possible.

it would be a great workhorse

My bad...terrible miss on my part. Greg is right on with it being the Penny's machine. Not a tough call then, it might actually be MORE desireable for someone than a Simplicity would be. My personal taste on the color aside, I wouldn't pass on it, but again, I haven't the slightest idea what a 112 is worth. I just can't imagine it's holding a candle to that machine though, even if it wasn't a specially marketed catolog store machine.

I favor the rearly Wards machines just because I think they're neat to find...that Penny's machine is in the same boat. Pull that trigger! =]

Wasn't that Penny's tractor on craigslist for something like $700? I'm thinking it would be more in the $400-$500 value range. I think its a decent trade. I'm thinking that running JD112s range in value from $200 to maybe $1200 for a good restore/refurb. Average one with model 39 deck and manual lift is probably $400-$500, I think. Add more if you have the rare hydraulic lift kit, rear lift kit w/helper spring, sleeve hitch, good hood and good headlight panel. If its a loaded 112 it will bring more parted out than whole. Electric lift was an option on the 1975 Simplicity Baron, but as others have stated, the pictured tractor has a manual lift arm and a gear type shuttle trans.

Oh hey, it came back! I posted that tractor here a back in April, the JC Penny yellow is fairly rare and the guy reused the pictures and description.
I'd wondered if it sold, guess not

As the rest have said, nothin' hydro on it. Doesn't say hydro in the ad either

Carbs can foul up when a machine sits for a while, the gas dries and leaves a residue (fuel stabilizers are handy to help prevent this). Its generally not a big deal to get them running good again, though you may have to pull the carb off and get a kit for it (~$15 shipped off ebay).
