Hey guys,
I don't get many Onans in, That being the reason i'm in need of your help. Onan Performer 18 XSL, on an older (early 90's) Lincoln generator welder, The info tag on the shroud is completely unreadable and half gone. Is there another location were i can find the Model and serial number? I've searched and searched, and no luck! Thank you!!

168-0187 is the gasket and seal kit. FYI, the engine serial number is stamped in the block at the top rear behind the carb or on the side of the block behind the starter. 6-7 digits in most cases. Find that and I can more than likely tell you the spec number that goes with the P218G model.

Above not needed for a gasket kit.

TJ, Thank you for the Manuals! I got an ok from the owner, on the price of the gasket/seal kit. He also would like the decals on the side replaced, (Performer 18 XSL), would you have any idea where i could find those decals? I found the part number in the parts manual, part#98-6802-03, but shows this part number can not be found. I would like this to be a one stop shop. everything from Onanparts.com

98-6802-03 is for the 20HP engine. 98-6802-02 is for the 18HP. The XSL version is no longer available. The same decal minus the XSL is available. Added to site today. This is what they look like if applied to a black background.

Since we are on the subject, 98-6802-01 is the 16HP for anyone that's interested...:)

Hope this post doesn't exceed the time limit but I've a P218G that I cannot find the spec numberl I've scoured the blower housing as well as every square inch (aside from the bottom). I did find a number stamped on the block - 3315901 that someone might know how to cross reference. The parts people aren't very helpful without the spec number even though a carb kit shouldn't be that unique.

I'll check in the morning on crossing the serial number. 99% of the time it's not an issue for me to get the full model and spec number from the serial number. My records go back to 1942 but once in awhile there are a few gaps with missing info.

Basic P218G carb kit is a 146-0657. 9 times out of 10 this is all you will need to freshen it up. If you have the later emissions style carb with accelerator pump the kit for the pump is a 146-0658.

dr.
for some reason when onan made the P series,
the decided to save about 1.00 on every engine they built.
they used decal type tags, instead of the REAL metal tags.

the # you listed is the S.N. of your engine.
BUT in this day and age they can,t cross this to a spec#

for a carb kit i would think that they would be able to go off the # on the carb, usually a 146----#
i,m in mn. myself, and deal in used onan engine parts.
e/ mail or call 651 437 2826 hastings. mn.
thank you. boomer

146-0500 is a more detailed kit but the cost is more than double of the most often used basic 146-0657 kit.

Spec A-G coils were flange mounted or bolt in style. That design is no longer available. Bolt in coils are replaced with a 541-0522 retrofit kit that includes the spec H and later clamp mount style 166-0820 coil.

Are you certain on that serial number? It comes up as 15KW genset. Right next to it 315902 does come up as P218G with a spec of 10531B made April of 88.

Note: 1st digit dropped on 7 digit serial numbers.

Well, I could be looking at the wrong number - see attachment. Picture is from the right side (as you sit on the tractor) of the intake. It would not surprise me if this was an engineering prototype and not delivered through manufacturing. Funny, though I'd been led to believe it was repowered in '95. Could have been something sitting on a shelf in the back room.

Thanks for the heads up on the coil and carburator kit. Timely, as I've not purchased either yet.

Wanted to check the coil out first, says in the service manual that the coil should have primary resistance between 2.9 and 3.6 ohms and 14,500-19,800 ohms for the secondary.

Thanks, again.
