Hey all
I could use some advice on getting a used snowblower. Ive never owned one....always shoveled. But im gettin older...and the snow is gettin heavier...haha. Time to let the equipment do some work.
I can get a 1989 Toro 824 for 200 bucks. 8hp tecumseh...24 " 2 stage. Its in nice shape suprisingly for being 25 yrs old. Almost no rust....no dry rot on tires. Carb was just rebuilt and belts replaced. Runs good.
I was just curious what u guys think about getting a 25 yr old machine as opposed to a newer one. I always hear that they were built better back then...."they dont make em like this anymore"....is that true for snowblowers as well? Specifically Toros?
Any advice is appreciated

My uncle gave me a 1979 toro 724 snowblower and its a good machine at 35 years old. The old Toro's were well built.

I like the older blowers. Newer blowers are easier to handle. Have a couple more gadgets which I can easily live without. But yet the old and new still have the same functions. Forward, reverse, chute adjustments.

What I like about my older blowers is, they are made of better metal. Which means the snowblower is heavier by weight. Weight helps through hard snow. It also helps keeping the blade or bucket on the ground through hard stuff. My sister bought a newer ariens blower. Even though it has all the fancy stuff and a 4" bigger cut. It's hard to use that thing through a hard drift. Instead of going through the drift, it wants to go over it. Mine will go through most hard drifts with one hand on the bars.
