According to the wiring diagrams that I use, for wide frame tractors, your VR should have 4 wires.
A terminal marked "bat" with a gray wire going to the neg terminal on your amp gauge.
A terminal marked "gen" with a light blue wire going to the solenoid (large post opposite the battery)
A terminal marked "F" with a yellow wire going to the "F" terminal on the SG
And a terminal marked "grd" with a white wire going to ground.
It is also my contention that ALL voltage regulators are NOT created equal.
Meaning that voltage regulators made for different applications may be marked differently and that the position of the terminals may not be the same for all applications and that all VR's do not necessarily route the power in the same way.
Again according to the diagrams that I use, the lights do not directly connect to the VR, they are powered from the neg. side of the Amp guage (same terminal that leads to the "bat" terminal on the VR).
