:fest30:Hallelujah! and Thank You. Thank You. Thank You. :fing32: to all of you who kept answering my posts.

I was able to reach the tangs (didn't even know they had a name) get the wires out, re-bend the tangs out - just a little, put them back into the connector at the right locations.

Instead of blindly putting it all back together and trying the key. I knew how to test it in advance, and was not the least surprised that when i did turn the key everything operated as it should.

My lil Red 8183KMT is back on line. :Tractor2: couldn't find a red one on there.

Specific thanks to Don, Ron, Sheldon, thing, and wjohn who each posted some answer that turned on a new lightbulb for me. There were probably others. And an extra shout out :praying: to Richard who contributed alot not only with his knowledge but especially the images he put up. A picture is worth a 1000 words they say - I say a picture is at least worth a 5-prong connector on the back of my ignition switch. Without those images of what was in there i might have destroyed mine pushing something in there to get the "tangs"!!!

I will never be intimidated about trouble shooting the electrical system on any of my tractors again after this experience.

Now i got to get my chains on. My plow attached and figure out how to get weight on the back of my tractor w/o spending much. All things i have never done before. Then let it snow!

That is what I like to hear. Teaching a man to fish is best.

Awesome! No need to thank me; the others were the ones providing the useful information. You'll have to let us know how it does in the snow. There's an 816T nearby me for sale with a snow blade and a spare Onan and I'm horribly tempted... but I've been spending too much on the 2-wheelers.

I will definitely be referring to this thread to troubleshoot rider electrical issues in the future.

I got my snow plow with the 812. That tractor starts, but needs carb work and alot more. The owner was nice enough to through in a plow - I think off a wheel horse, which is in better shape than the gravely one. There is a spring all stretched out on the gravely plow and i am not certain it will be functional w/o some work. The better one - stronger too will need a rod welded onto it, to match up with my 8183KMT. I probably will be starting a new thread with questions about that soon.

I would not encourage anyone in anyway who might be struggling with G.A.S. but isn't the 816 the one with a rear hyd hitch? - and it has a back-up power unit? Duh! How much they asking?

Good job! Way to hang in there! Feels good, dosen't it?
Yes Ron it feels very satisfying. For anyone out there who has become interested in these tractors but has limited experience with mechanics, it proves if you just get in there with basic knowledge and logic you will be able to figure these machines out.

My father always fixed his own cars and equipment and made me help him. At times some of it was not pleasent. It was what my Dad had to do to keep the ends together. I vowed to not do that when it was my turn. However I did acquire some basic understanding of how things work. I'd give anything if he were still around to share my new found interest in these tractors. He'd love it too. Oh well life goes on with each generation standing on the sholders of the ones before.

$575 OBO. He's had it for sale for over a month now. It has hydraulics, but it looks like the liftable rear hitch is gone. The main thing that severely deters me is that he said the PTO clutch is out and it has no mower deck.

Is the spring the only issue with your Gravely plow? Pictures in a new thread would be great.

Only the original 816 (CCKA 16.5 Onan) tractors had a standard lift hitch and axle block. Those would have been optional on a 816-T.

With a bad PTO, I'd only go $200 to $300 and that's if it's a good engine.

That's what I keep telling myself. He says it does run, but like I said... I don't need anything else right now. There's just not much call for a snow blade around here - you guys with the big snows have all the fun. The 2 CCKAs would be nice to have around though, especially if my neighbor ever lets me buy his 450...

Sorry Canary Al for half-jacking your thread here :sorry1: I'll start a new thread.

The only thing better than one Onan is two. Three is better yet. I am up to four and am stopping there because I ran out of tractors to put Onan engines on..:fam32:

I'm glad you got this fixed, I was exhausted just from reading your ordeal....
:fing32::fing32::fing32:
Yes - I probably exhausted everyone following this casually - most certainly those who supplied answers. Now that I worked through it the actual solution was quite simple. Trace the wires - know where they go and put them there. For you Yamato and many others with a better understanding of all this my "ordeal" must have looked a little self-induced.

I really had no idea how someone messing with the wiring years ago when repowering could create the issues I was dealing with, and in several steps i had to learn where to examine, how to examine and how to execute. Thank God for MTF. :thThumbsU: :thThumbsU: :thThumbsU:
