I'm not sure which thread you're following so I'm posting my response in all 3.

C343882 is a 1972 serial number which is during the production run of the 300 series tractors. 2F03B means that it left the assembly line on February 3, 1972 during the day shift.

Also, it is a pre-1975 tractor. Did you mean to say that the manual that you bought was for pre-1965 tractors?

There should be two other numbers stamped into that same flat pad near the starter on the right side where you found the serial number. Please post them if you can find them. If it is a 1972 3000 then one of them should start with "C10".

C9NN6015A is the engine block casting code and it says that the engine block casting was designed in 1969 and was probably used for several years after that. From a Google search it looks like it should be from a 3000 series tractor. Look down below that number on the flat rail just above the oil pan. There should be an engine serial number stamped into that rail. They will be much smaller numbers than the raised casting code. If it is a 1972 diesel 3000 then the engine serial number should start with "CD" followed by a 6 digit number.

Are there any other numbers on the foil tag under the hood?

Also forgot to mention that there should be a third number near where you found the serial number and date code. It might be up in the rough area of the casting above the flat area where the other two numbers are located. That one will be the model number.

Looks like you found the 2nd and 3rd lines of the data on the bell housing behind the starter. 2F03B indicates build date '72 June 03 Dayshift. C343882 indicates a 3000 and the 343882 falls in the '72 year range. For what it's worth, there should have been 1 line of data inboard of those numbers that would tell it is a diesel, what plant it was built in, what pto it has, and what transmission. For example, my 2000 has this as a first data line: B1023C. Hope this helps
The C at the beginning of the serial number does not indicate that it is a 3000. the C at the beginning of the serial number just says that it was assembled at the plant in the US. Serial numbers beginning with an "A" were assembled in the Antrwerp Belgium plant and "B" serial numbers were assembled at the Basildon plant in the UK.

The letter at the beginning of the model number tells you what series it is (200/300/400, set) and the next two characters in the model number tell you which specific model within the series. Examples:

C10 - 3000 series general purpose ag chassis (generally called a 3000)
C40 - 3000 series Utility chassis (generally called a 3400)
C50 - 3000 series Industrial chassis (generally called a 3500)

You can get an alternator conversion kit that comes with the bracket and an alternator that has the gear drive on the back for the tach cable for around $175.00 from one of the sponsors here at MTF, Steiner Tractors:

If it has live PTO then it is a double clutch. That's what "live PTO" means on a Ford tractor. The clutch pedal engages the PTO clutch when you let the pedal up halfway and then it engages the transmission clutch when it is almost all of the way up. That lets you stop the tractor by pushing the clutch pedal down halfway without killing power to the PTO.
