It figures... I just got new Carlisle Snow Hogs and tubes for my 70 10A and, after getting the tires on,I noticed the first rim is splitting.

Is it possible to get these anymore?

Check this out.. Yeah, that's the tube you see.

Do these things come in a one piece tubeless design?

I've got quite a struggle going on here with the second one. The tube keeps pinching between the halves no matter how much or how little air.

....and I know about using talc.

Man,talk about drudgery!

Thanks for the info,you guys.

That's a great idea,Roger. Btw,the carb you sold me for the L still works perfectly.

I've been out plowing with the 10A and its new 18-6.5-8's and its rims that are barely holding together. Those things have quite a grip. Got about 6in.

Has the old tires in this pic.

I had a pair of rims like that there were rusted away.

Your only option is to get new rims.

Richard's has them as does Miller Tire. They aren't cheap.

If you want to go tubeless then you have to get 4 bolt hubs. To get them you will have to turn down a pair of 3/6 bolt hubs. Then you can have 3 choices of rim widths. 3.75, 5.375 and 7" 8.5 inch tires on a 7" rim looks great. recstuff.com has the rims you want at a reasonable price.

To keep the tube from getting pinched, I used some door shims from Home Depot. Keep pushing the tube in as you tighten the rim.

I called Richards. This was my first time using them. I've had some bad experiences concerning month-long shipping with other Gravely parts vendors,so I thought is give them a try.

The guy answered the phone right away, knew exactly what I needed and is sending the parts I need out right away. $37 for each wheel assembly including bolts. . That didn't seem bad to me. I should get the parts Wednesday.

Thanks again for the info,guys.

I've gotten stuff from them as quickly as the next day. Never more than 3 days. Not only that, they often know what you need better than you do.

Richard's is tops. You will get your stuff quick....guaranteed.

+1

The worst thing that ever happened to me at Richard's was they forgot to tell me that the L piston rings I had ordered were currently out of stock and were coming in a few days later, so when I got all of my other parts I had to ask about that. And then the rings showed up two or three days later. I've been very happy with them. There's a reason they're #1 in the Gravely world.

I'm lucky enough now to be close to a Gravely dealership that doesn't know much about the older tractors but is more than happy to order whatever I want without much of a markup. Since I'm capable of researching and looking up part numbers it works out well. I still put a decent-sized order into Richard's once every year or so, though.

Well,I got the new split rims from Richards. Decent runs at a fair price.

Now to get these new tires off of these old rims.

This is proving to be pure struggle. Going on 1 hour now.

When I put new tires in my L,I actually had to cut the tires off the rims.

In this case,I have new tires.

I started taking my 7in cutting wheel to this rim. Then common sence got the best of me. I don't want to ruin the tire!

I've tried jumping up and down on one end, squeezing it in a vice...

This bead just will not break!

Anyone have any ideas?

I squeeze mine in a vice like you did then I take a 2' long pry bar with a flat end and pry them off. Use the top of the vice jaws as your fulcrum point and be careful. Lube at the bead may help too.

I just tried prying and split the top of my bench.

Chisel...big ball peen to cut rim in half. Pound wheel out of shape.

Wow! Now onto the next one. Ugh!

If you make a stand for it, the stand needs to be anchored to the floor. I have found that mounting mine in a Workmate allows me to apply a lot of force when needed while standing on the Workmate. I don't set the Workmate up. I leave it folded so it is closest to the floor. Sounds awkward, but works fine.

Working on the last half. Getting rough here!

I'll bet I'd break that tool,Roger. I should have went to a tire store and had them remove these.

I have the mini tire changer, and a larger one from tractor supply. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't for breaking the bead. With most of the old L tires I end up having to sawzall the tire in half and cut the cords with wire clippers :(. It can take over an hour per wheel. The tire changers work great on the non split rim wheels ...

Yeah I've had trouble with some tires they can be well this explains it well :1106:

I admit I have used the backhoe teeth before. Don't have a pic of doing that.

I also have an old school tire breaker. usually with a brick under the spilt rim I can do it with some time and soapy water . Won't lie it takes lots of effort not to cut the tires .......
