Hey guys i changed the hydro fluid tonight and was curious if some one could tell me what year range the filter looked to be. wanted to judge its last service or if it has ever been changed at all. Its different than the one i replaced it with due to the lettering on this on is screen printed to the filter were the new one just has a jd sticker applied ( probably because they are out sourced and jd applies a label lol). The tracter is an 88 if it helps, i guess its a shot in the dark but im always amazed at the knowledge on this site so who knows

I do know its pre 2000 by the deere logo
I think that is about all you can say other than I do not think it is original. They might have been grey at some point :dunno: Even though to logo is prior to 2000, the filter might have been changed later depending on dealer stock. Someone might know more. I hope so I will be interested to read where this goes.

If you still have the engine out, you may want to check the governor flyball spacer. Might be a good time to see if it has the plastic fingure to lock it to the cam gear. If not, there are threads about making a key to fit in there. Or use a loctite product on the existing. Or buy a new one with the update fingure.

Seems to be a common failure on the 318s that you could address now. Or no big deal to do later if needed. You obviously are mechanically inclined so removing the engine again later should be no big deal.

See the link at the bottom of my signature for one type of fix. Give Boomers_Influence a call. He can get you set up with what you need!

I know this has been gone over time and time again thus why im not going to start a new thread for it.

Ive been wanting the field trax tires for the rears, already have fronts but can't decide between the 24" or 26". I've been reading all the treads on these and it seems the 24" actually measure in at 20ish inches. My turfs now are 23ish, so im wondering if the 26" field trax tires are actually like 23"/24" keep in mind i still want to fit my 50" deck under. Also not sure on the rim situation i noticed guys getting the wider rims is this really needed? And if i do get wider rims im assuming you would mount them in the narrow position so not to interfere with the deck wheels.

I went with the 25x10.50s HDAPs on my 318. Not sure if they are the feild trax or the other version. They are they heavier ply count. Work and fit awesome.

Went with a 18x6.50 front tire too. stock wheels on both ends.
post a pic?

Well i havent posted in awhile but i still have been tinkering with the 318. I got most of the tins ready for paint plus built a make shift spray booth.
Ive been trying to decide on a seat option first i hated the seat bracket/spring setup and the going rate on the suspension style bracket is just too much. So while crusing ebay i came across a seat bracket for a 240 which is also adjustable with a starting bid of 9.99 i was the only bidder so mine now. However once mounted to the tractor the orgional piviot point for the seat made it sit to high so i lowered it and ground down the side brackets so the seat would still tilt forward. Now its time for a seat with arm rests.

Hello jchabot
You will enjoy that coil spring seat much more than the standard U-shaped spring seat that came on your 318. I did the same thing to mine. My seat came from Evil-Bay as well it was made for a John Deere 345 Tractor and I modified mine placing some heavier coil springs towards the rear of the seat track as shown. I bought the heavy duty coil springs as Lowes they were intended for a Porch swing with a load rating of 325 Pounds and now work in conjunction with the original ones that for me were too weak to carry my weight level when seated I weigh 250 Pounds. To get the most Travel out of the adjustable seat frame I had to grind the rear portion of the seat Tracks a bit so that I could mount the new adjustable seat frame farther back on my fedner pan as I am 6'-4" and wanted all of the rearward travel that I could get out of the new seat frame once it was mounted. Now with all 4 coil springs in it's frame work it is a heavy duty style that works well with me. I then bought the John Deere seat cushion repair kit which cost me $69.00 and replaced my torn seat cover & it looks and works great now, I have a grand total of $94.00 in mine which is a far cry from what an Original Heavy duty style John Deere flip suspension seat frame cost's for these 318's that seem to go for around $300.00 Used. :fing20:This seat cushion repair kit is a direct duplictate seat cushion matching the original one right down to the embossed leaping Deere in the rear upper portion of the seat cushion as shown. Regards, Hammerdown

Looks good hammerdown already just from testing it out for adjustments i can tell im going to like this setup alot more than the orgional. Im not that big of a guy 5'4" weighting in at 165ish soaking wet lol. I had to lower the front of the seat because i couldnt reach the floor boards no joke.

This is Also getting d-doggs full treatment. That list is invaluable and a great find
Where might this list be found? Searched and not sure what I am looking for.

Well i have got a little spraying done over the weekend. Everything except the fender pan has been etched primed and the sprayed with JD primer sealer. Im am very pleased with my make shift spray booth keeps all the fumes outside and not in the house.

The booth is 8x8x7 with 2 20"x20" intake filters and one 20"x20" exhaust filter ducted 10' out my window with a 20"x20" box fan.
