LT1045 Fuse Problem

I went to start my mower yesterday and after spinning for a bit it completely died, with no power to anything. After checking it out I discovered that the fuse had blown, which I have replaced and the mower now starts.

However, I'm trying to figure out what caused the fuse to blow in the first place and I noticed something that I'm not sure about.

On the underside of what I'm calling the ignition switch (where you stick the key in to start the mower) I noticed that the "plug" doesn't completely cover the prongs on the underside of the switch. I've pushed it on as hard and far as I can and it still leaves about 3/16" of the prongs exposed (the lower black plug in the attached picture).

Is that normal? Could that blow the fuse?

I had the same fuse on one of my mowers blow, last week. I replaced the fuse and haven't had any more problems. I wouldn't worry about it, unless it starts happining frequently. You could look for a possible rub thru on the wire harness. It won't be a fun thing to trace down. The connector is normal, on the ign switch.

I don't know much about Cubs specifically, but sometimes fuses just get fatigued and blow. I don't think the socket is an issue, unless something got in there and shorted two pins that shouldn't be connected.
I would look over the wiring harness for crushed or chafed wires, then let it ride. If a new fuse blows, then something is definitely wrong, but if it doesn't blow, then I'd blame fatigue for the fuse failure.
