Linear Actuator for Plow

Hello, I am new to this forum so I would like to start off by saying what I have read through has allowed me to kill a lot of time and relax. I really enjoy reading through all the forums. I have an idea and was wondering if it is a good one or not. I have a newer Simplicity Broadmoor 16 Vanguard V-twin. I have an older Simplicity Plow and hitch that fits my tractor. However the lift lever doesn't so I got a winch and mounted that to the tractor to lift the plow but then got to thinking how cool would it be to be able to rotate the plow from the seat of the tractor. So I began looking at linear actuators. Has anyone tried using one of these for this sort of application? How did it work? Do they work ok in cold weather? Or is this a stupid idea and I should just get off the tractor and manually angle the blade?

Thanks

to attach pics with post, click on the "go advanced" button at bottom of quick reply window in center, then scroll down, there is a "manage attachments" button, click that, then click on browse and select pics, you can do this up to 4 times. click upload first! then close window. I use 320x240 resolutions. my kodak digital camera software allows me to save a pic to any preset size and I choose this one for email and posting, usually about 50-100k, large enough to see detail, but small enough to upload quickly

I want to see you pics! Look forward to it.

On the other end of the actuator is a 1/2 hole. I drilled a 1/2" in the frame of the tractor and bolted to that using a 4" long 1/2" thick grade 8 hardened bolt. I then ut an oversized u-bolt around the cylinder and only tightened that till it was lightly snug.

So all of the pulling weight is held correctly and the u bolt keeps the thing from just swinging down when there is no weight on the actuator.

Deerman, Hello, I saw your pic of your anlgle for you plow but it is kind of hard to see how u mounted the actuator for the plow to move. If u have some free time would you be able to take a few closer up pics of ur plow. One with the blade angled and a few of how it is mounted?

Thanks

Sorry guys, I have been out of town. I will try to take some pics of the blade angle actuator this weekend. I have a new 332 and I need to take some pics of that tractor so I will have the camera out. The front blade is currenly not installed on the tractor but that should actually make it easier to see the mounting. FWIW, you only need a 4" stroke actuator. Any more than that just gets in the way. Someone mentioned the mount points, it is absolutly critical that they be parallel to each other. The ram not only moves around it's mount point but the entire actuator moves through an arc.

BTW, Pigsitter, I have a 212H JD with a factory sleeve hitch and frankly I never thought about installing an actuator on it. I may have to look into that idea.
