LGT2654 engine problems

Hey all, my LGT2654 rider, with a Kohler KT745 is having an engine problem that I need help sorting out.

The engine seems to get stuck on the compression stroke, if I turn it by hand past the compression stroke, it will crank over just fine.

At first I thought it was a starter issue, so I replaced it, still does it, tried swapping batteries for one out of another tractor, with more cranking power, also with no luck.

Anyone have any ideas?

First, to rule out some more significant problem with the engine, try starting the engine with the spark plugs out, it would spin nice and fast. If not, then try spinning it by hand (should be very easy) to see if it's a starter/electrical/battery problem or a engine problem.

Assuming the engine spins well, then, if the valve train supports it, I would suggest adjusting the valves to spec.

If that doesn't help, then there probably is a problem with the compression release mechanism for the engine (whatever that may be).

Yup, I pulled the spark plugs, cranked with no problem, it was also turning over fairly easy by hand.

I did notice that the battery I pulled out of it is 5 years old, and only 230 CCA, which I think is kinda small for a twin.

With the 300 CCA battery that I have in it now, on the battery charger, set to quick charge for about 10 minutes, it cranks over faster than it ever has since I have owned it.

I have an older Husqvarna YTH2348 with a B&S Intek V-Twin engine.

It had the exact same problem with compression release. I had to adjust the valves. Now it's fine. Cal
