I traded for a John Deere 955 last August. It has a 60 inch mower deck and 750 something hours. I ordered and installed a Westendorf TA-111 loader, with a 60 inch bucket, during the winter so I had not had a chance to really use it, just mowing. I had a Yanmar YM2020 before, rated 20 horsepower which I used a 5' Tiller and a loader with a 48 inch bucked. The tiller really loaded the Yanmar and the loader was just better than a wheelbarrow. Yesterday I hooked the tiller to the 955 and wow what a difference. I tilled a garden and a 1/3 acre corn patch. It didn't even grunt. I also started to move a dirt pile which had been there for 3 years. I used low range and 4wd. It would spin until I lifted the bucket a little and loaded it then it really loaded it big time.

I am really impressed with this little tractor. It is really powerful. It has all the features of a larger tractor but in a smaller unit that's easy to load and haul.

CONGRATS..... On your new tools..

I have a 1987 JD855... Supposed to be the same frame size with less hp...
Both models are a brute for the work they can do compared to there size and weight..

Be sure to load your rear tires.. There are a hundred "DIY how to" posts and videos how to do that... The results are very well worth it..

The only problem with older tractors is when you go to add a dedicated implement, the attaching hardware can be harder and more expensive to find..
I would love to find a #7 backhoe with all the hardware necessary..

Good luck...

Part by part replacing my 955: last two weeks spent replacing the driver's side MFWD case, seals, bearings, etc...over $1460 in parts. Today the Selective lever broke the end off its M90923 Shouldered bolt that runs the lift/drop valve on the loader. When I took everything apart, the actual loader lever that holds that part had egg shaped the holes that the bolt fits thru. With the lever costing over $65, I went to my shipyard machinist neighbor and we rebored the openings up to 5/8" with his bridgeport, then made two bushings that have the 12mm bolt ID and the 5/8" new bored OD with his lathe. All while still waiting for the new bolt to ship out of Ontario. The picture(s) show the bushing in place and the broken off end of the shoulder bolt.

The lever between the seat and left fender is the 2wd-4wd selector. Forward is 4wd, toward rear is 2wd. Maybe this picture will help.

As requested, here are some pictures!!! I absolutely love the hydro stat drive. Just recently at my Son's I spread 50 ton of gravel in less than an hour. Really agile.

Hello, I am not sure if anyone will see this. I have a 955 and LOVE IT. One issue I have is when hauling it on my car trailer in cold weather to snow blow the hydrostat transmission freezes up. I usually haul it less than15 miles. The first time it happened forward motion would not work, reverse would some. After 10 minutes of the engine running and pushing lightly on the pedals, it began to work. Today I hauled it about 25 miles with the temperature in the single digits. It froze up again and would barely move in reverse, no movement forward. Has anyone else had this issue? Thank You for your help. Jim Bradshaw. jimbo54365436@gmail.com

You will be much better off if you start a new thread with the above message. And welcome to MTF!

Yes a huge improvement over the YM2020 by having the extra 13Hp. Almost doubled. Sort of like owning a YM330 or a YM3810 with the turbo. The hydro is nice too. Just read up on hydro tractors operate for the best uses, else you'll find other tasks for the YM2020 due to the PowerShift.

Speaking of the YM2020, are you keeping it or passing it to another family member? I find my sons are very interested in eyeing my machine. Either I'll upgrade and pass it down or if health goes south they'll get it sooner.

Your YM2020 is just a tad better than the SCUT and at the lower end of the CUT machines. The JD955 certainly places you up in the real mid-range of the CUT machines.
