Have you mowed with a SCUT before? I wouldn't use the word "great" to describe it. Unless you are mowing open fields with wide turn arounds, the 2210 would not be a good machine to use to mow most residential lots. It would do other things for you very well, and it's a nice machine, don't get me wrong, but I would not want one as my primary mower.
That's my only reservation. 90% of its use will be mowing my yard..

You would take that over a diesel ?

I would, but some other ones on here wouldn't because they are strictly diesel guys.

The X744 is nice that Zolt3c listed for $6000...but you will eat up the other $2500 and then some getting the blower and the blade.
What state is that New Hampton one in? NY, Iowa or NH

But you said your buddy had a Blower for sale right?....maybe get that if you can get it cheap and it will fit the X744 and forget about the blade....and then down the road when more funds become available get the loader.

Edit: Oh I though that was 155 hours....it's 1550 hrs.......yeah I know it's diesel and it will last 4000 hrs...........Not sure I could pull the trigger on that one.:dunno:

If what you want is a machine that excels at mowing and can adequately handle all the other chores, my answer is the x744 (ok, maybe I am a little biased).

Check out this machine; https://waterloo.craigslist.org/grd/4223033307.html

Almost 1600 hours in 4 years. Sound like a commercially used machine to me. Price is WAY too high...

The one in Boston looks like a sweet deal. Good package, maint records, low hours. I'll take a low (200-500) hour X4x5 or X5x5 over a high hour (1200+) X7xx ANY DAY!!

I like the x485 deal in Boston area the best. A plus too is the 2 sets of rims and tires.

Way too high ?? I guess it depends on what you value. If you want a 2WD/2WS gasoline machine, the x485 or x720 are fine choices. However, The x744 is diesel AND all wheel steer. It will out mow, and outlast, all the other models being suggested here, even starting with ~1000 hours more. It will also have the lowest cost to run based on fuel economy.

This is the best base tractor suggested in this thread, the benefit of the other suggestions is simply that they come with more attachments. I would try to start with the best tractor possible and not settle for a lesser machine just because it comes w/ attachments. You can always pick up the attachments over time as $$ become available.

No a fan of all wheel steer, I feel it's one more thing to break. I do want a diesel!, but will settle for a gas engine if the price is right.my budget is 8500 for mowing and snow removal.

To each his own... As for me, I'd rather have attachments I'll use than options I don't need. YMMV

If you don't want an AWS diesel, you'd be looking at the X740. It would still have all of the same features except the AWS that you don't want.

IMO, we need to be realistic. If the objective is the best mower, any brand budget zero turn will outperform all of our tractors. Anything beyond that is a compromise of utility for other purposes. If we can't agree on that then we won't agree on the benefits of AWS, no point continuing that discussion. My only suggestion would be to try it before you knock it.

I'd rather buy a base tractor and be able to cherry pick the attachments I want over time. For example, it's much cheaper to buy a snowblower in the summer and a mower in the winter. Attachments are also where you can still tinker with the X-series machines.

I'd rather have attachment I'll use than options I don't need. YMMV
When did longevity, maneuverability and fuel economy become options you don't want? If we just took the most basic of my suggestions, a diesel engine, and eliminated cost as a consideration, would you still take the Kawi over the Yanmar??
