JD X300 Running Rough

Hi Folks,

I have a JD X300, when I went to start it I could only keep it running by giving it some choke, as soon as I let up on the choke it stalls out. I thought it might be bad gas or water, I put a gallon of gas in as well as some dry gas but it make no difference. Also, when it is running it seems to keep surging

Any suggestions

I had this problem, and it ended up that there was crud in the fuel line. Check the fuel filter to see if it is at least half-full of gas. If the filter doesn't have much gas in it, then not enough fuel is reaching the filter. Either the pump isn't working well or something is clogging the fuel line between the tank and the filter. It sounds to me like the carburetor isn't getting enough fuel from the bowl, and choking the engine gives it enough fuel to keep running (but with no power, right?).

I would check the fuel pump and the fuel line, as well as the fuel filter. Also, this could happen if there is water in the tank or carb bowl.

I have a similar issue w/ my x300. It runs rough at low RPM. It lopes. At full throttle it runs fine.
I have done the following:
Adjusted the valves. (engine has ~ 280 hrs on it)
Checked fuel filter. It's free & clear. When running, the filter has plenty of fuel in it.
Blew air from fuel filter into the fuel tank. So that line should be clear.
Checked plugs. The look fine. Not lean and not carbined up.
Tried adjusting the carb. But the adjustment screws didn't have much effect.
Cleaned the air filter.
I don't know if the fuel pump is working properly. Don't know how to check it.

If anyone has suggestions, I'd love to hear them.
