Hi all, Happy Easter and hope all is well with yours and your projects. As the title says I finally found something....something Wonderful :thThumbsU I went to the storage closet/pantry looking for a can of Old El Paso Refried Beans (I make a mean pintos and cheese dead on to Taco Bell's) but instead of finding them, I looked around a bit and I found a box that said PICTURES. I had HIGH hopes :praying: and I found the shot I've been looking for ever since I started this project. Ok, even longer than that. hehe And also finding Absolute certainty that I was right.

Mow Joe, Alanky, NOVA, Mikey, and everyone here....Gaze your eyes upon what I've been after a LONG time. And what I'm trying to recreate. Everyone I give you my Dad's Snapper! 1984 I think this picture was taken.

I KNOW I'm going to find sleeping hard to do after finding this wonderful memory. :thThumbsU

Thanks for all your help and guidance in making this project a reality. I have a line on the correct front wheels and a 26" mower deck. After that, its time to create some new memories with my son on a blast from the past.

GREAT! I have just been following along on your quest. Since I have nothing to add to the Snapper aspect. :thThumbsU

Looking at your time stamps folks might not see your posts before they have been pushed to the second or third page of the new topics. I check a MTF a decent amount and I would have said something but I didn't see it :fing32:

LOL Athens. :sidelaugh I haven't laughed that much in a while, thank you. The series I am unsure about, Mow Joe probably knows it by heart and for the Folgers coffee cans - my dad kept all his excess nuts and bolts lock washers, washers, screws and odds and ends in them. This was a time when large metal coffee cans were plentiful and were catch alls. Matter of fact we still have them here at the house. The plastic ones you see as well were hardware holders. Good times...take the technology of today and combine it with the 80's and you would have utopia in my opinion.

Mow Joe - you are quite right - when I found that pic I nearly lost it, also found a pic of my dad's Honda Custom CM400 I used to ride with him when I was going Kindergarten - 2nd grade. Also it felt great that when I saw the mower that I was 99% right at all the details I remembered minus if the blade deck had the C iron piece welded on the deck or not. I'm happy to see that it was. :thThumbsU

I sure hope that guy sends the blade deck and front wheels soon, its starting to feel like I'm running out of time. Reason I say that is that I had my son on my left leg with my left arm holding him giving him a ride on our Poulan 38" cut mower. He saw how I was driving with my right hand and this kid is only 2 yrs 10 months old and he DOVE for the steering wheel and started steering the mower himself! Of course if I pointed to the left or right he would do the same, but if I spun my finger upside down like turn left or right he would turn the mower one way or the other but the fact is he actually steered it! You are looking at one shocked but happy pappy hehe.

Thanks all

Jeff- I can understand your enthusiasm about the old Snapper. Keep going until you get the mower finished. I have not read all of your posts about this so I will ask, what kind of front wheels are on this Snapper? They look plastic in the picture.

My old bow tie handle bar Snapper has served me since about 1981 when I bought it refurbished. My children used it when they were growing up and now my grandson has mowed some with it. I hope it stays in the family.

"Semi" pneumatic. In other words, hard rubber, like a fork-lift tire. They weren't worth a bottle of cold pi$$ and didn't last. I think you will stumble across big-foot riding a unicorn before you find a good set (using the term "good" loosely).

Hello. Do not get me wrong here I love my Snapper RER'S to death. But they do have some flaws. One major one being the small front tires used on the vast majority of all RER'S. If a Snapper RER was a NASCAR cup car the steering setup would be considered very very tight. Even using Pneumatic tires they will still slid a bit if one tries to make a hard turn. Those SEMI pneumatic tires used on your dad's RER would be like driving with racing slicks on a rainy day. Slide baby slide. Just be careful when you mow with it. As far as wear goes I usually wear out 3-4 front tires to one rear tire on my RERs.

JUST MY OPINION HERE.

Nova, are you sure there is not something wrong with your mower? I've never heard of anyone wearing out tires on a mower. We once had a Snapper RER in the shop that would slide the front wheels when turning (10 tight in Nascar lingo). A quick check showed that the differential wasn't working. Both rear wheels were locked together. When rotating one rear wheel by hand, the other would turn the SAME direction. I opened up the rear end and found the spiders (pinions) installed wrong. I put it back together correctly and all was well.

Mow Joe I guess I should have mentioned that my Snappers cut a lot of grass. I inherited most of my RERs from my dad. When he had them he would cut about an acre+ at a time. He had 10 acres 8+ for 3-4 head of cattle he raised and the rest was for the house and storage shed. When he felt that he needed a new RER he would purchase a larger cut model. He gave me his old RERs for a very reasonable price. My place is not as big as his but I still cut 3 city lots each are 100' x 150'. Plus my lots are on I'd say a .8 grade. The newest RER I have was new in 1991,92??. Soon I will be needing better treaded tires for the front of the SR150 Square tube. Oh yeah sometimes I cut the church where we attend grass 3+ acres there. The differentials are all ok on my RERs. I was just trying to point out that the fronts wear out much faster than the rears on a RER because of the size difference.
