Hi,

My cousin-in-law fabricated a one piece hitch for me, but I'm unsure if I need to remove the pulley on the rear lift to be able to install an anchor shackle/chain/quick link to connect the hitch to the lift. Is that right? Thanks!

Great looking fab job! Here are a couple of options for mounting the one point. You can also stick a stinger in the tube and attach to that, or a clevis and rod as shown in the parts diagram (#1-6). I'm not sure what the pulley was/is for. I have not seen one there before. Do you use it for something?

The rear hitch on the Simplicity tractors is set up something like a 3-point hitch. You have really good control for things like tillers or back blades - like the earthcavator photo below - and I have set up several tow-behind implements like a dethatcher, aerator, etc that are much easier to operate with the lift than the original. A sleeve hitch is not necessary for them, and might even reduce their utility compared to the direct hitch setup.

I don't understand what the difference is is besides useing the sleeve or not.
That's a really good question. The Simplicity/AC hitch system has been used since the 1960's with minor variations in design. They had a wide variety of implements that fit, however, many of them were set up for a sleeve hitch. The adjusting bolts on the sleeve could be used for some offset adjustments that might be useful for getting better operation of a moldboard plow or ??. Powered attachments like the revitalizer and rototiller attach direct to the lift tube and are stabilized and towed by the two attachments pins on the lower hitch. General GT implements like Brinly commonly are set up for a sleeve hitch, hence it is more universal.
I made a sleeve hitch when I first got my Simp/AC tractors, but have not used it for anything except a counterweight base. I have a number of Brinly/Sears tow-behind attachments that I simply modified the tow hitch arms and added a lift chain that easily attach to the Simp hitch. (and removed the "road wheel" system).

So, bottom line, I don't know which is better - both systems have their advantages and uses. Do other readers have an opinion?
