OK, Let's try a different direction, since this one is gold plated. Can anyone point me to another forum or site that can suggest a substitute coil?

All I want it to is run the engine not play angry birds. I see Onan coils on Ebay a lot cheeper. There is one there for $25.25. I would love to use it.

Talked to a gent in Cali today, he sez that part is discontinued, imagine that.

He gave me a new number, but I haven't been able to find anything on it. New number 166-0799.

I need a coil to run the engine, not bells & whistles.

Also, you might consider swapping a kohler for that onan.
The price of a good used kohler would just about match
that price of a coil.
At least then you would have an engine you can afford to work on.

i have suggestion i dont know if it has already been mentioned but you can use a car coil such as the following

just hook the + terminal up to a hot on your ignition and the - side to your points and put a spark plug wire on it and your good to go (i would not suggest this if your charging system doesnt work !) but otherwise it will work great ! Hope i could help

 

I am still looking for a coil. I will see if I can get an image of the one that I need up.

I don't think an auto coil will work but am open.

A car coil will work if you have points or evwn an elevtronic ignition ive done this on many tractor becaise eitjer the mag or the coil c spending 150 on a new coil
