Great PONY Mods!

Three relatively simple Pony mods, I did these mods for the following reasons. 1. A fuel shut off to be able to run the carb dry every time get finished using it.

2. Drilling the pitman arm for tighter turning, very important in the tight flower beds my honey has planted, now it turns just like my Sears.

3. SEE SITE RULE 5

The fuel shut off is a total no brainer!

The steering mod takes about 25 minutes!

All are quite simple and well worth the time to make your mower use more enjoyable.

Great tips/mods, Phil................I have already done the reverse lockout one and the fuel shutoff one when I first got the mower ...I am interested in hearing more about the steering mod though.

Thanks

Being new to the forum and this being a safety feature, I am not sure if I am allowed or it is appropriate to type specific directions to bypassing a safety feature. PM me and I can let you know the required information. Sorry, just don't wanna get banned my first week here. :thanku:

Phil, thanks for the directions on the steering mod. I plan on doing it after I get the other mower issues sorted out.

Re: The deck wheels...........same problems here. My lawn looks uneven on wavy areas, and it scalps on turns. I sometimes wind up going over these areas with the push mower..Why Troy Bilt didn't bother with deck wheels is beyond me...I see the newer models have them..After seeing what they want for the kit, I plan on adapting an old set to fit.

Re: Reverse lockout, several brands and models in Canada now have lockout features. Some of them require you to turn the key back and press a button to mow in reverse. Yard Machine,Yard works,Craftsman, etc...

Several years ago( 7 or 8), in my province, a lady backed over her toddler who was supposed to be inside with an older sibling. Since this tragedy there have been stricter laws here. Of course most of the lockouts are pointless because there is a reverse bypass direction sticker posted by the key, for anyone to see.

Me? I see it as unnecessary and a pain in the butt. They must know people are going to bypass them. A simple paragraph in the safety manual should be sufficient.....But hey, if it saves a life then I suppose it's a good thing.

Now where did I leave my toaster..........Oh, in the bathtub...............Darn, the manual warned me not to do that.:Stop:

FYI... My Mom's John Deere has that dumb lock out that will shut the motor right down if you put it in reverse with the deck on... Took me a while to put 2+2 together and figure that one out!

It was not THAT long where I had to Google it! But it cut out two or three times on me before it dawned on my it was some sort of safety switch. Oh... and what feature did NOT work on her 4 year old Deere? Yea, the over ride switch... and the brakes... and all four tires that no longer held air and had to be tubed, (Garage kept too!) what a freaking joke. :fing20:

TB got smart the new models do not have the lock out! Maybe someone up there can read and took the hint! I am now 70 and have had a bunch of riders from a Bolens, Deer, Craftsman and now a Craftsman and a TB, only the TB had the dumb lockout. The machine is a pleasure to cut with now, all it needs is a set of deck wheels to cut down on the uneven cutting on the lumpy spots!
