I have a G5200 that I got for $100. I got it running and seems to mow well with good power. The key was missing so I hotwired the fuel pump and jumped the starter. I need to fix the missing wires and can determine most of the wiring but I am not sure about the glow indicator on the dash. It appears to be just a resistance coil. What is its purpose? Does it reduce the current to the glow plugs? Does it glow red when the glow plugs are on?

I'll take a swag at the glow plug indicator. I'll guess it'll glow when power passes through it.
To determine how it's supposed to be wired, start off by tracing the wire from the glow plugs. Does it go back to one side of the indicator? If so it was probably wired in series w/the glowplugs and the other side of the indicator should go to the glowplug on/off switch. Some models have a stand alone glowplug on/off switch while others have a glowplug energize position on the key switch.
On the other hand, if one side of the indicator is wired to frame ground, it's safe to sat that it's wired in parallel with the glow plugs. Meaning power (12vdc) is wired from the on/off switch to the glowplugs and the other side of the indicator is wired to the same spot as where the power lead is wired to the glowplugs.
Clear as mud? :D

The diagram shows glow lite between G1 &G2 of the Key switch, G2 then goes to the glow plugs via black/red wire.

On my G6200HST the glow lite has never been visable( glowing) yet the glow plugs work as designed.

Do you have the key switch? If not I can ring mine out to see if the "glow light" is actully in series with the plugs.:wwp:
