Forward-rearward shifter problem on IH 2400A tractor

Yesterday I was bush-hogging, running forward in 3rd gear, low range. I stopped to reverse to avoid hitting a tree. The forward-reverse shifter would not shift into reverse or into neutral either. I found that the link pin that connects the shifter’s clevis to the forward-reverse control arm was missing. I replaced the pin with a bolt and tried to shift into reverse and into neutral. The shifter will move forward and back about 2 inches each way; it will shift between low-range forward and high-range forward, but it will not move into reverse or into neutral. . I had shifted into reverse and into neutral without problem just a few minutes before that. Now the tractor is stuck in forward hard up against a large tree. Does anyone out there have a tip for troubleshooting?

I think I might have the answer. My 806 sticks like that once in a while. Look under the floor pan on the left side of the tractoe You will see a clevis. You might have to use a long screwdriver but push or rotate it foward( clockwise) You will feel it come out of gear. Might take a little force as you stated it was hard against a tree. From the way you discribed the shift levers they sound the same. Hope this helps.
