we have a 1970? simplicity 2210 with briggs 10hp motor (243431 briggs motor-old cast iron)...engine has just had valves ground and new hastings rings installed along with very very slight hone..thanks for all your help with hastings rings..they work great..compression went from 70psi to about 100 psi..i lined up the arrow on the armature and flywheel (clockwise turn on flywheel) to time and used my fluke meter to determine exact moment points open..new points set to .020 gap and installed new capacitor..everything looked great and i have what i consider a good spark for a lawn mower engine..now here are the issues i need help with--
..carb is 2 piece flo jet and floods like crazy..gas is running out emultion tube (main jet) and down into lower portion of carb..dad had new butterfly valve installed a year ago..the main jet and needle screw appear to be very worn and could this cause a flooding problem???
..i have found briggs flo jet reference an new style and old style (i am sure this is the earlier style flo-jet)..would those parts interchange? if the new style parts are different would my new butterfly valve be the problem or can i just update the flo jet to the newer style with no affect?
..i am going to buy a new main jet and needle assembly this week and try that to see if my flooding problem ends
..what is considered good compression on these old rebuilt motors?..as indicated above i have about 100psi
..any new technical service bulletins from briggs where it says to no longer set float height parrell to butterfly surface?..i set the float to limit gas in bowl and still it floods..my 30 year old briggs book says gloat set parrel to surface but i figured this might fix flooding problem so i adjusted the tang slightly
..with no gas in carb but fuel flowing engine will start momentarily or try to start..soon as carb bowl is full it shuts down and gas runs down into lower half and out the air filter hole
.. any help from you guys super appreciated ..thanks..god speed
