Does anybody have any problems with with the chute slipping out of the bagger assembly blowing grass all over your back? Is there any fixes for this problem?

Mine has done that on an occasion. I think it has a lot to do with the deck section not wanting to stay in place. The hook that is suppose to go behind one of the grass deflector shield bolts continually pops over the bolt. I'm going to install a longer bolt in mine before fall to prevent this from happening. Once the hook is out of place the rest of the chute isn't held in the proper alignment. I only bag in early spring and leaves in the fall. Duct tape or screws isn't going to work, it needs a certain amount of movement through the rubber boot in the bagger unit.

I know what you are saying--mine will occasionally pull out of the bagger-especially if one of those little metal hooks on the rubber stretch cord gets snagged and bent--when the rubber one had gotten really stretched on mine--I twisted the rubber around once to make it tighter--guess I'll eventually buy two new ones...:Disgus:

Make sure your deck is adjusted level and right also---since it connects to the chute @ the bottom--if it (the deck)was forward or lower on the right side--that would pull the chute down/out...My actual chute is a two piece plastic one on my Scott's.....

My L120 had the same issue today, and more.

At one point I had the problem I think you mention. The top section of the tube simply went away. Which was great fun as the thatch I had just freed was left to spew skyward while I desperately tried to remember how to stop the blades. The lower section and the bag hanger remained in place.

Later on, while waving proudly to a neighbor from the yellow seat of my new to me toy the lower shute, upper shute, and bag hanger fell off completely. That yeilded a bit of snicker. geesh

The hanger frame has two lower tabs the just stick into a plate about the middle of the differential and the top has two hooks that mount to the Cargo Mount holes on the fenders. The hooks do not seem bent and the holes are not oblonged, so I am at a loss as to why bagger parts are auto jettisoning as well. Maybe the end of the hook needs to be longer?

I'll be curious to see if anyone has a solution, but I only need a few more hours with the bagger before the mulch plate goes on more the season until fall.

I dropped by the JD dealer that I purchased my mower from. He said that some of the baggers were shipped with the wrong length chutes, so he ordered the correct one for my setup. He said that the incorrect chute is about 3 inches shorter than the correct chute.

Also if the bagger was ever over loaded, the up right support will bend back and that will allow the end of the chute to slip out. Nice of the dealer to order a longer chute for you. You can use a gripper strap to pull the support up straight and that should work until the new chute comes in. Most of the clipping are loaded with moisture right now and that adds up in weight.

Hopefully the new chute will workout!I havent had any problems with mine!just the grass cloging up in the chute if cutting too much or going too fast. When i installed my bagger i removed the side grass deflector!its easy to remove and makes attaching the shoot to the cutting deck much easier.

Just sitting here reading My Tractor Forum and came across this subject. I just bought a John Deere bagger for my 102 yesterday. Hope it works well. Going to use for bagging thatch. The chute is pretty long on mine. Had to modify some on the down bracket from the top rod that goes into the fender Cargo Mount holes to where the down bracket goes into the back of the tractor down toward the hitch. I cut it off and made it fit with my sleeve hitch attachment. Boy that was scary. One of those deals where everything is cut at an angle. Just didn't want to do one of those measure twice and still cut to short. But it was a perfect cut the first time. So now I can go from a sleeve mounted dethatcher to a bagger and back to a sleeve mounted aerator in a couple of minutes from one to the next. I kept the piece I cut off in case I want to weld it back on and sell it . Oh ya, the best part of this is I bought this bagger for $125. New in the box. The box had gotten wet and distorted and couldn't sell at full price. Nothing wrong with it. So once in awhile I get a good deal. Well now I have 4 yards to go and thatch, bag and aerate. Neighbors and friends seen what I can do so now I guess I am sort of starting a little buisness.

If you have time --could you take a close up pic of the bottom of your chute mounting--where it connects to the deck? and do you flip up the plastic and metal deflectors at the bottom when useing the chute?
It looks exactly like the setup on My Scott's...and how much plastic chute is inside the upper housing? Mine looks like only 2-3" at most...
Inquiereing minds do want to know....
Thanks!

Thanks for these responses-and M/M -I had never thought about the up-right support maybe being bent--I'll check closer this evening..
Thanks--again!

Mine is the old style not a cargo mount. the upright support slips into a angled piece of metal attached to the rear and has a pin to keep it from slipping out. It`s to the right side of tractor frame, later they came out with a heavy bent rod assy that attaches to the back of the tractor to hold it up right and that helped with it leaning back away from the tractor as the bags filled. Without that rod assy. the chute end popping out and you gettig a neck full of grass clippings. I tried to get a part number or picture from JD`s part catalog but nothing comes up. Only one that comes up is the cargo mount like the picture above.

Well just got done with dethatching, bagging and aerating. Very impressed with the John Deere 2 bag bagger. Here is a picture to see just how full I could get it. I finished so I couldn't get it clear full.

That's a great picture--mine looks like that sometime--:congrats:
Quick question--as you open the top of the bagger--it should 'slide' down the chute--next time--do it slowely and notice if the two- piece chute moves much, especially at the bottom where it attachs fore/aft to the deck itself....--that's what I need to know--
Thanks!!
