Hey all, One last question. How is the soft cab as far as the windshield fogging up or getting iced when blowing snow?

Thanks,

Brad

I don't think you will have problems with garage door with X300 ( the X500 with HDAPS is very close) standard garage door height is 81 inches, the JD X300 cab is 78 inches tall. I hemmed and hawed about whether to go with JD cab or OTC, the OTC is obviously more solid choice- but its also almost 3 times the price ( if you get glass and windshield wiper) It came down to me how long I would be in cab- my driveway just isn't that long. IMO If you have a lot of snow blowing to do and will be cab 45 min or more go with OTC, if its less than 45 min go with JD and save yourself a lot of money

Hi Upstate Tony, I do blow about 45 minutes so the soft one would be ok I think. I was just worried about fogging or freezing up. I watched your video and that convinced me pretty much to get one. I am a do it your self-er for most everything so I am not afraid to tackle it after watching your video for sure. One last thing. Are there vents in it you can open for warmer days? Thanks for the reply and the video it really helped!! :thThumbsU

Thats wasnt my video - but yeah its a good one. The JD cab is vented to prevent fogging up. I havent got any snow yet so I cant attest to how it handles it, but others have said no problem, if you get a bunch of snow on windshield you tap it with your hand

The longer you are in cab the better the OTC is , its more suited to using a heater, and while I love my seat time, not interested in sitting on my a$$ in 5 degree weather for hour and half in unheated cab

I understand on the heater. I have used no cab for the last 15 years so just keeping the snow dust out of my face will make it worth it LOL. I now have a plow on my pickup for the big parts now. Its just cleanup and sidewalks for the blower so I think this cab will be fine. Thanks again for the input! :thThumbsU

Hi All, I bought the soft enclosure today. Put it together with no issues at all and didn't take long. I Let my garage heat up good and the wrinkles came out of the windows nicely with it stretched tight. Do you all leave them on for the summer for a sun shade or do you take them off. If you leave em on do you just take the door off to keep it cooler inside? Just thinking ahead. Thanks, Brad

I’ll take mine off, I’m building a new shed in spring to house my Deere stuff..LOL, so I’ll take canvass off, leave door intact and if possible take entire frame off intact. Took me a few hours to put it together this year, next year I can’t imagine it will take me more than 15/20 min. I’d be afraid even with door off, it would be a “hot box” in summer , but that’s just me ..and BTW where are your pics

I agree that's what i was thinking too about the heat. Its cool your building a shed for your Deere's. I keep mine all inside too. I also would hate for a branch to cut it up mowing. I also agree with taking the canvas and frame off. I really think it will be quick to do like you said.

:wwp: well here it is *sigh* My garage is a disaster LOL! :dunno:

We got snow last night so I will be trying it out today :thThumbsU

Nice set up- ironic you got yours on last night and using it today- mine has been ready to go for last 4 weeks, 50 something today and a run at 70 on Christmas day

I wanted to post one more thing. If this needs to be moved let me know but it is related to snow blowing so I figured here would be ok. :hide::praying:

:dunno:I was really unimpressed that the pulleys for the blower are open and get all iced up. It can and does make the belt slip (really crappy they didnt make a cover for them in my opinion). But me being me, I made a really quick fix for it. Honestly it works so good I never bothered to make a better one. Also if you need it off its off in seconds. :drunkie:

Its just a piece of round heat duct flattened and strapped on to the blower then its bent on the end so it will slide in between the frame and bumper. It works great!!!! never a bit of ice or snow in the pulleys and no belt slippage. :thThumbsU

Thank you!!! Oh wow, Yah I agree that is ironinc. Actually we only got an inch and have possible up to 6 inches coming tonight so I am waiting :praying: lol.

I also have a plow on my 2000 gmc and I put in on like you said months ago and finally used it last week. But here is how I say it to people. If I spend all this money and its warm I don't care lol, its money well spent to make it stay above 0. I do love blowing and plowing snow. I do 3 yards for our relatives plus ours and dont care if I get anything for it. I gave up the snowmobiles do to back surgeries so this is my fun!!! I went from from one toy to another like these and I love it! :greendr: :thThumbsU

Now all you need is a small, cheap heater that plugs into the 12v outlet under the wheel and you're all set. Nice.
It has very big vents in it you cant close so it doesn't fog up. You would have to find a way to cover them to heat it. I have a big battery in it so I think I would go for a power inverter and a small AC heater. Ive heard the 12volt don't put out much.

I used it today and I don't think I will put heat in it at all. 24 degrees and barely needed gloves in it. I was sweating lol. 6 inches of snow everywhere and I barely had snow dust on it when I was done. This is the cleanest i've ever seen after brushing it off blowing that much snow. I do mine plus 3 other houses. The only downfall is one chain came off in my yard. No idea why it came off (I use heavy zip ties to secure it) but will have to put that back on. Oh LOL I have to bring a clipper for tree branches next time. I never even thought of that until avoiding them today.

Here it is after first blowing.

I hope you all like yours as much as I do. Its AWESOME!!!! :thThumbsU

I am getting an X350 with 44" snow thrower and cab delivered next week - and was wondering about installing Aux work lights for those times that snow removal is done at night

I currently have a much older (1980's ) JD 160 with a metal top and glass windshield enclosure (vinyl side doors) - (see avatar)and have installed two LED flood lights to the roof facing forward, along with an orange strobe light on top (magnetic mount), and recently installed a single LED flood light strip facing back for lighting up that area.

How can one install aux lights with this new enclosure? The fabric goes over the metal frame, so would you just cut a small hole in the fabric at the top bar for the mounting bracket and wires to go thru? Or is there another alternative?

Hi Nemesis98

There are no holes in the top at all, so yes you would need to drill a small hole to mount lights. I did not see any other ways to do it. I could be wrong but I don't remember any holes to mount anything when I put it on.
I just love mine. It keeps the wind and snow dust off. It is doesn't really keep in heat with the big vents but that keeps it from fogging up. One tap on the windows and the snow just flies off. Enjoy your new setup. I know I sure love mine :fing32:

I personaly would not put any holes in the fabric. On my X320 I have to stretch and pull that fabric soo tight to install it, I would be afraid of doing anything that might create a weak spot in the fabric.

A possibility is to make something that attaches at the back of the tractor in the area of the weights. Then attaching your light and bracket to that.
