I bought a Jacobsen/Homelite 420 snowblower single stage a few months ago for $25 running. But it sprays gas out the primer. Thats why I got it so cheap. Its in good shape and all but I went and got a whole rebuild kit and put ALL NEW stuff in except the welch plug. It has new diaphram, gaskets, needle, spring, little arm that opens and closes the needle and IT STILL SPRAYS GAS OUT OF THE PRIMER. Not a trickle but a spray!!! grrr Its beginning to be snow season so im going to be wanting it soon! Its my moms so i want it to work good. Any thoughts?? Thanks Taylor

Plugged gas caps don't pressurize, they vacuum lock and stop fuel flow.

I can try to clean it out some more. Im open to anything at this point! Thanks!

I read that they don't have air filters because of the possibility of snow, moisture collecting on the element, freezing and thus blocking the air flow. Instead they all seem to have a big shroud around the carb.

There isnt an air cleaner, im yet to see a snowblower with an aircleaner. They just have a little shroud/dome deal over it to keep water and snow out.

What kind of carb is it? Check for a missing welch plug (although I doubt if it would run for long) and make sure the primer line is connected to the primer inlet and not the breather tube on the carb-some of the older carbs I've seen have a small breather tube that looks like a primer line tube but it's not. Easy to confuse the two-ask me how i know. :banghead3

Is this a 4 cycle or 2 cycle engine?

Its a 2 cycle. there are 2 spots to put lines. I bet that is what is happening 1 runs to the gas tank the other to the primer. ill switch them around and see if that does it! thanks

Well i switched the line around and fired it up and same problem but less gas is spraying out...... im stumped.

Check the reeds and see if they are closing properly. If they don't it can cause spray back through the carb.

Hi, I have this same blower and figured this out last year. The original primer bulb had a check valve in it so the fuel would go back to the return hose to the tank instead of out the primer bulb. When I bought mine someone had broke the whole primer off so I replaced with a regular one and had this problem. After finding out about this I bought an inline check valve off Ebay and it runs perfect now, great blower. Hope this helps.
